The internship process for the June vacations is nearly complete - we're extremely thankful for your cooperation! As this academic year draws to a close, we'd like to bring some matters to your notice.
Showcause and Penalties
First, we cannot emphasize how important this internship period is for those of us seeking to learn the ropes of a corporate job. Our batch has had the most number of applicants to June internships in a long time. Further, we've managed to make contact with several law firms and other institutions offering internships to law students. As a consequence of this fortunate state of affairs, several of us have received an internship opportunity. However, some of us continue to wait in queue. In all fairness to those still waiting, the RCC doesn't take kindly to those who treat lightly the opportunities that they have received. Additionally, dropping internships does not go down well with the firms taking interns - it reflects poorly on the professionalism of NLSIU interns and diminishes our bargaining power in the long run. We hereby warn the class of 2017 that anyone who chooses not to avail of the internships that they have already accepted will be subject to showcause proceedings in accordance with the RCC '16 rules. Penalties include a complete bar on applying to October internships.
Constitution of RCC'17
Secondly, we have been approached with an interesting suggestion by Prof. Elizabeth. She recommends that the law school provide the RCC with "clerical support" for every internship interaction. While we assume that this entails printing CVs, tallying CGPAs, and other facilitative activities, we are unclear on what clerical support means. The extent of the RCC's cooperation with the faculty and administration remains to be deliberated upon. We believe that we, as observers, are unable to make the decision by ourselves. Hence, we propose that the RCC of the Batch of 2017 be formally constituted in the first week of June. Whether we continue as your representatives or not, we promise to collaborate with the new RCC to the fullest extent possible. We will email you with further information on the new RCC soon.
Final Vetting of CVs
Thirdly, we realize that several master CVs have unverified material on them even now. We will notify you of a date on which we will conduct our last vetting session as RCC observers.
It's not our last email just yet, but you must know: it's been a great run, y'all.
Please let us know if you have any queries/ clarifications.
Cheers,
Akshat and Nupur
