Hi everyone,
The results of the offering are as follows :-
1) SMU Hammers, Singapore (10 - 12 May)
Team 1: Viraj, Anil, Aniruddha Basu
Team 2: Sounak, Rudro, Nayan
Team 3: Nimoy, Gargi, Shraddha
Adjudicators: Parth Singh, Parul, Shivani, Gaganjyot
Note: Registration per person is
60 SGD (about INR 2600). That needs to be paid on 10th May at SMU. However, accommodation will need to arranged separately. You guys can check out
http://www.hostelworld.com/ and do a group booking, it'll be quite reasonable. Also, the cheapest flights available are
http://www.tigerairways.com/in/en/index.php (about 17k return approx).
2) Australs, Kuala Lumpur (14 - 22 July)
Speakers: Nayan, Ashrutha, Ritika, Divij, Rudro
Note: We've been allotted 2 teams and 1 adjudicator, so 1 speaker slot and 1 adjudicator slot are still vacant. Since Australs has an affirmative action policy requiring 1/3rd of the contingent to be female, 3/7 members of the contingent must be female. Thus, preference will be given to women applicants over men.
Do apply, this is the world's 2nd largest debating tournament after WUDC. The registration per person is 1680 MYR (about INR 30,000) The deposit payment is due on the 26th of this month. It amounts to 50% of the total registration cost which is about INR 1,05,000 approx. Subsidies for this tournament will be intimated soon.
Important: Australs consists of 8 minute speeches with no POIs. If you check out Australs motions from just the past 2 years, you'll realize that topics range from internal migration in China to legitimacy of Somaliland to vegetarianism to currency manipulation... you get the picture. It's a very hard tournament to break in; no South Asian team has ever broken.
That said, you'll get to see some of the best debates possible in the 3-on-3 format and meet the Asia-Pacific debating community while staying in a 5 star in Malaysia for a week :)
Now, we're the best hope for any South Asian institution to get through to the main break, but in order to do so we'll need to put in substantial practice, read up more than we currently might do, and prepare files for matter. It's a challenge, and it'll take some effort. Do apply only if you're committed to practicing every week.
We'll be accepting applications till 22nd April.
3) UADC, Manila (22 - 30 May)
We have received NO applications for UADC. Considering that it's the Asian Championship and we have 2 teams and 2 adjudicators allotted, we'll wait 5 more days till 20 April for any applications. Then, we'll forfeit the slots.
We've missed the deposit payment for UADC. Hence, applicants must be ready to pay the registration fee ASAP.
4) INDC, Delhi (1-2 May)
We have received NO applications for INDC. They quite badly want (and honestly, need) us to come. We have 1 team. We'll keep applications open till the tournament - first team to be constituted gets to go.
