Hi everyone!

We're proud to offer a debate that offers an exciting prospect to travel to Pakistan and experience their hospitality, the 10th Annual Shahjiwana International Debating Championship (SIDC) 2013. This tournament is being hosted by University College, Lahore, an institution that has taken part in past editions of our very own NLS Debate, and have also won it in one of the editions.

This debate is in the BP Format, and is happening from 25th to 28th of January, 2013. We're offering this debate early since arranging for visa requirements to travel to Pakistan take a while. Additionally, Sharmila Parmanand, who is the Chief Adjudicator, is a highly accomplished debater in the Worlds platform, and had been a part of the Adjudication core of The NLS Debate as well in the past. Her involvement more or less guarantees a high quality tournament.

To apply for this debate, please apply as a reply to this thread with your Round 2 rank and previous debates taken on that rank. Teams get preference over individuals.

The deadline to apply for this debate is 30th October, 2012 (Tuesday). Please apply before the deadline.

Lastly, this is the final reminder for all those who've missed several recent offering done through the group to join the offering googlegroup through https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/nls-debate-and-adjudication-team-2012-13

We have been, and will continue to offer, all debates throughout the year only through the group. Please join the group for future updates and offering.

Cheers!

Subject: SIDC 2013 Invite
To:

Dear Sir/Madam,

University College Association of Debaters (UCAD) of the University College Lahore, takes great pleasure in inviting you to the 10th Annual Shahjiwana International Debating Championship (SIDC) 2013. The tentative dates for the competition are from the 25th of January 2013 to the 28th of January 2013.

Every year UCAD hosts its own parliamentary-style debate: 'SHAHJIWANA INTERNATIONAL DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP (SIDC)', which shall witness its 17th edition this year. Over the last 17 years, Shahjiwana International has achieved the status of Pakistan’s most prominent parliamentary-style debating competition. In 2003 UCL became the first Pakistani institution to host a debating competition with teams participating from India, Srilanka and Bangladesh, thus making SIDC an international experience for all those who were a part of it. UCL had teams coming from India and Colombo University in 2009 as well. This year we aim to host even more teams from across the globe and provide a unique platform for debaters. Additionally, apart from hosting international teams, orators of University College Lahore have played a key role in building debating ties across Asia and further internationally. In 2004 our speakers were ranked as the top speakers while competing at a South-Asian debating championship hosted by the National Law School of India (NLSIU). In 2005, our team won the very same competition. Moreover, our team has represented at the Worlds and UADC (formerly the AUDC). In 2009 the UCL team qualified as the Octa-finalist at NLSIU, and one of our speakers was amongst the top ten speakers at the competition.

Over the past years, University College Association of Debaters has worked hard to promote the debating culture in Pakistan. Partaking in International competitions and having International teams come is only the first step. This year, we're taking a rather major step by hosting some prominent International Adjudicators such as Sharmila Parmanand (an adjudicator at the 2012 WUDC final). Having International teams such as your own will only increase the glitz and glamour of the countries most prestigious tournament.

The format of the debates will be in accordance with the World Universities Style Debating. The debate will consist of 4 teams of 2 persons each. The teams will be as follows:

1.    Opening Government
2.    Opening Opposition
3.    Closing Government
4.    Closing Opposition

Members will deliver a substantive speech of 7 minutes duration and should offer points of information when the members of the opposing teams are speaking. Detailed rules can be found on the World Universities Debating website: http://flynn.debating.net/Sydrules.htm/

Each institution can bring a maximum of 3 teams. However, every institution that brings along more than one team will have to bring an adjudicator (or adjudicators), according to the n-1 rule: if you bring 2 teams then you must bring one adjudicator. If you have a problem bringing the required number of adjudicators do let the management committee know in advance.

Moreover, we welcome individual adjudicators and trainers to our tournament and will be providing boarding, lodging and transportation facilities for the duration of your stay, including  entertainment and social events.

We enthusiastically look forward to your participation which will not only add colour to the event but also provide an enriching debating experience with the interaction of highly talented individuals from all over South Asia. It is through the such initiatives and your participation that we aim to promote debates within our country. We look forward to speedy responses so wc can initiate the visa process immediately, and ensure that the visas arrive in time for the teams and adjudicators to attend the tournament. Kindly let us know of your participation at the earliest.

We will be more than happy to handle your queries. If there are any  formalities that we need to take care of, then please do let us know.

Looking forward to seeing you at SIDC 2013.

Yours Sincerely,

UCAD Team!
(University College Association of Debaters)

Hey guys,

Judging by the applications, we have Manish, Sekhri and Chirayu applying for this year's SIDC. One more person would enable constituting another team. Please let us know at the soonest if you're interested.

In the meanwhile, we are confirming the offering of this debate to Manish and Sekhri.

Please get in touch with Sounak for further details on how to register and arrange for a Visa, since the process has to be started right away.

Thanks!

Hi!

As a quick update, we've confirmed the participation of Manish, Sekhri, Chirayu, Trisha, Parul and Harshvardhan. That's three teams.

While further applications are invited, we request the confirmed participants to begin arranging for their visas immediately and figure out travel. You'll be put in touch with the organizers.

Thanks!
