Hi everyone!

We’re now offering the following debates to all the members of the NLS University Debate Team:

1.     The Malaysian Debate Open (Asians)

·         This debate is happening in Malaysia from 8^th – 12^th March, 2013

·         Being hosted by MMU, Melaka, experienced hosts

·         The registration fee is Rs. 7,665

·         The deadline to pay registration fee is 21^st November, 2012. Applicants must be ready to pay this amount immediately upon confirmation of offer, as finalized slots depend on this payment.

·         We have made the Quarter-Finals of this debate previously

·         Omar Salahuddin, Valerie Inting, Dohhee Roh and Robin Teo form the adjudication core

·         We’re offering 5 team slots (15 speakers) and 5 adjudicator spots (Round 1 Ranks)

2.     Stella Maris College Parliamentary Debate (BP)

·         The debate is happening from 30^th November – 2^nd December, 2012

·         The registration fee is Rs. 1500

·         Their adjudication core comprises of Aashay Sahay, Vipul Nanda and Karthik Sivaram

·         This is their inaugural tournament

·         We’re offering 2 teams (4 speakers) and 2 judge spots

3.     St. Xavier’s BP Debate Competition (BP)

·         Happening from 14^th December – 17^th December, 2012

·         This is their 3^rd Edition, and is a relatively easy tournament in the circuit

·         Their adjudication core and registration fee are yet to be decided

·         We’re offering 2 team slots (4 speakers) and 2 judge slots

4.     The 65th Mukarji Memorial Parliamentary Debate (2 on 2)

·         Happening from 11^th – 14^th January, 2012

·         Hosted by St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University

·         Their adjudication core comprises of Aryaman Bhatnagar, Dhruva Desai, Maanav Kumar and Prithvi Rohan Kapoor

·         This debate is the oldest, and hence, a prestigious debate tournament. Their format has so far been a 2 on 2 with replies and no Q&A. This year, they might shift to Asians, but pending that change, we’re offering it as a 2on2 debate.

·         We’ve brought home the trophy for an unprecedented 4 years in a row till last year. We look to maintain that running this year too.

·         Registration fees hasn’t

·         We’re offering 2 team slots (4 speakers) and 2 judge spots. (Round 1 ranks)

5.     IIT Bombay's Mood Indigo National BP Debate (BP)

·         Happening from 21^st – 23^rd December, 2012

·         Their adjudication core comprises of Shobhit Singhal, Aashay Sahay and Prasun Bhaiya, with a possibility of Yaman Verma.

·         One of the notable tournaments in size and participation in the circuit.

·         We’re offering 5 team slots (10 speakers) and 5 judge slots for this tournament.

Penalty for dropping debates:

Please remember that once you apply for any of the above debates, and subsequently drop it without a compelling reason, we will penalize you by dropping you to the bottom of the offering list for debates in the subsequent offering, irrespective of your ranking. So apply for a debate after having thought over all factors, including travel and registration costs, attendance problems, possible conflicts with project submissions or exams, parental permission issues, other commitments, or just plain lack of interest.

For international tournaments, if you drop the debate subsequent to offering, we will bar you from applying for any international debate in the subsequent international debate offering specifically, notwithstanding the previous condition.

That said, do apply. These are all big debates, and promise to be loads of fun. This is our chance to continue our amazing run this season, and establish our dominance in the circuit.

Please apply by replying to this thread with the following details, in the absence of which, we will not consider your application:

1.       Your Round 1 and Round 2 ranks, along with the previous debates you’ve taken on those ranks.

2.       Your order of preference for the debates being offered (mention all the debates you might consider going to)

3.       Whether you’re applying as a team, or an individual (only applies to Band 1 applications for BPs)

The deadline for all applications is 13^th November, 2012 (Tuesday) at 3pm.

Hello all,

This is the FINAL REMINDER for all members of the NLS University Debate Team to apply for the 5 debates that have been offered. The deadline has been extended to 8pm tonight. 

If there are any slots remaining in the debates being offered, the same shall be offered to the entire University, the deadline for which will be 16th November, 2012 (Friday) at 8pm. These slots will be offered to everyone irrespective of their ranks (or the lack of one), and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
