First and foremost, however, a group like this is predicated on participation. I had the sense that only a few people were actually putting out their thoughts on the first two papers we read. Perhaps some of it is just the nature of the forum, but I think it's paramount that people find ways to ask questions, bring up discussion points, etc. People also need to step up and say they are willing to be the EOTM or whatever other mechanism we have for picking papers. The group will only be as good as those who choose to participate.
Another thought is to make the group just a more general NLP discussion group and that it doesn't have to be tied specifically to a paper at all times. For instance, people could just say things like: "I'm reading this paper now and am wondering what people think of the section 2.1..." We can still have the "assigned reading", but we can also just make it more discussion.
