Highlight on partial word

Hi,

I'm trying to set a highlight on part of a word. As in I want a
highlight (ie. "abc") which also matches longer words (ie "abcd" or
"abcdef"). Is this possible, and if so, how do I set this up?

I've already tried "abc*" and "abc%" without luck.

And I use xchat 2.0.2. Yes, I know a newer version is available but I
haven't had time to upgrade. Besides, I don't know if an upgrade would
help in this case.
