i read you post on the list from april.whats the current status from the system
tray for xchat? i looked at a few programs which library they using and found
out that many of them using eggtrayicon. is not that hard to implement a basic
system tray support with this api.
let me please know if you stoped developing the tray. then i will make a basic
system tray support with eggtrayicon...
somebody else working on that ?

Kinda got sidetracked... got married ;)
Anyway, I played around with it to learn some more about gtk, then got
bogged down about behavior and never made much more progress.
Issues to consider:
o single notification, or per channel?
o notification lifetime
o zooming to xchat (across workspaces?)

K. Think I still have the tidbit of code sitting on one of my
machines at home. I'll dig it out and send it to you if you want.
God only knows how many Gnome HIG violations I avoided w/ my
nuptials. -<g>-

Not that I'm aware of.

Awhile ago a friend of mine implemented support for it against xchat cvs
and told Peter Zelezny about it via IRC. Peter basically told him that
it was a pointless feature and was going to be written as a module by
someone else (I assume bret?). I just think that a working (even if it
was rough) implementation should have been considered over vaporware.
I'll see if I can get him in touch with you, I hope you follow through,
I'd really like being able to put xchat in the tray when I'm busy on my
machine and don't feel like chatting.
One other suggestion - if you're minimizing it to the tray, you usually
want it out of your way. I would tie the applet notification to the
same routines that check for highlighting messages or beep on privmsg.
Cheers

Don't recall ever speaking w/ him about it.

If your friend's got something up and running, I (and I wager others)
would be happy to play with it some :)
All mine did was pop something into the system tray on name
highlight. Pretty tiny, and focused on how I do my work.

Single. Or configurable to be both. Eight to ten notification icons
blinking in my tray will drive me mad. :)
> o notification lifetime
Configurable. From infinite to nearly 0.
> o zooming to xchat (across workspaces?)
Eh, I don't see the need personally.
