I've got it set up, and can cut or past things into it, but I have a
project which requires me to input in Kazakh, which uses a form of the
Cyrillic alphabet.

I guess you are writing Kazakh in Unicode (though Kazakh Cyrillic
encoding PT154 is also supported), and want a suitable keyboard mapping
or input method.
A built-in Cyrillic keyboard mapping is available; open the
Input Method menu (right-click on the "--" flags) to select it.
If it is not sufficient or does not meet your expectations or
special needs for Kazakh, I'll be glad to help setup a specific Kazakh
input method. Is actually one in common use? If so, please send me the
information you have on it.
