Szia,

Here are the results of my twelfth songfragment quiz. I am very pleased to
break my record for the amount of participants in one quiz! Never before did
I have the honour to have thirty participants! Thanks a lot to all of you!!!
My only misfortune is that my brother keeps on winning my quizes, this time
even with a dazzling 100% score! But, alas, congratulations to him. I hope
he will take less effort in winning the next one... The Dutch Officials don't
seem to ever go out of the top three again and the first time The Parrotheads
participate in my quiz immediately gave them a third place. Are you ready to
beat Vincent next time around? Team Paul Sijben, The Irish Gang, The Aural
Retentives and Laura & Rick are always in for such high scores! The same goes
for Wolf Brothers and The "I *LOVE* Abstract"-Team, whereas a great result
from Ed "The Fozz" Mul puts him on the second spot where it concerns
individual entries! David keeps on guessing (about 75 points this time), he
might just guess himself in the top 10 next time...
Towards place thirty some familiar names, some who can do better, but most of
all several new participants! Welcome, I hope you keep on participating, the
next one's hopefully a bit easier for you! Finally, thanks to GweepCo for
some great jokes among their entry, it was the most "laughable" entry to check
for me! The next one, the thirteenth (hope nobody's afraid of this number), is
on its way to you!

Here are the answers:

1. (A) Wanna tell you a story about a woman I know

AC/DC - Whole lotta Rosie - Let there be rock

2. (B) On top of the world
Looking over the edge
You could see them coming

Kate Bush - Cloudbusting - Hounds of love

B2: Which famous actor can be seen in the video for this song and what is his
relation (in that video) with the vocalist ? [10]

The song and video were inspired by Peter Reich's book "A book of dreams". It
was written through his own eyes looking at his father Wilhelm, the
psychologist/physicist who claimed to have invented a machine that could make
it rain by accumulating "orgone energy". In the case of "Cloudbusting", Donald
Sutherland plays the father and Kate Bush is the female version of the boy.
The father means a lot to him/her. He's a respected psychoananalyst, but he
also had a machine that could make it rain and the two of them would go out
together and they would make it rain. It's very sad though, because the father
is arrested and taken away from him/her, because he's considered a threat due
to his beliefs. After that the rain will always remind the child of his/her
father, so he/she's one of the few persons who become happy when it starts
raining.

3. (C) You promised, you promised, you'd better explain
Though I don't know what the use is

Phil Collins - Do you know, do you care? - Hello, I must be going

4. (D) With you in that dress, my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty, ah

Dexy's midnight runners - Come on Eileen - Too Rye Ay

5. (E) I watch from my window
Touching the cold glass sky
As the train rolls down the track
I say goodbye

Melissa Etheridge - Royal station 4/16 - Brave and crazy

B5: Which famous leader of an even more famous band cooperates on this album,
in fact on this song and what exactly is it he did? [10]

Bono plays the harmonica on this song

6. (F) I could tell you about my life and keep you amused, I'm sure

Fleetwood Mac - Man of the world - Blues jam at chess

This song is linked to fragment 14, see the bonus question associated to
fragment 14...

7. (G) My friends tell me, she is the beast inside your paradise
I guess you've heard it all before

Golden earring - When the lady smiles - N.E.W.S. (NorthEastWestSouth)

B7: The video for this song caused quite some consternation, at least in
the Netherlands, that is. Why? [5]

A nun was raped by the main character (played by Barry Hay, of course) and
after surgery a dog was fed with the brains of the rapist. But perhaps most of
the stir was caused by the nun wearing red underwear...

8. (H) When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles

Jimi Hendrix - Little wing - Axis: bold as love

B8: Who covered this song and covers this artist regularly during concerts and
what is the reason he or she does so? [10]

I meant Sting, but points could be earned with other people as well. Like,
among others, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Derek and the Dominos. The
second part was really meant to point to Sting. In the inlay of the album
"Nothing like the sun" he writes: 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience was one of the
first bands I ever saw. I was fifteen and had just bought Jimi's first single
"Hey Joe". He was appearing at the club Go-Go in Newcastle. I'd never seen or
heard anything like it in my life and don't suppose I ever will'. But then
again, Derek and the Dominos covered Little wing on Layla and other assorted
love songs because Hendrix died during the recording of this album.

9. (I) Riding my life like a run-a-way train
Moving from one track to that

Billy Idol - Prodigal blues - Charmed life

10. (J) Slow it down
I promise, I'll be worth the wait

Janet Jackson - Let's wait awhile - Control

B10: Which other family members of this artist have or have had some success
in the music industry? [10]

Michael, Jermaine, Rebbie, LaToya, Marlon, Jackie, Tito, Randy and the three
boys of 3T: Tariano "Taj" Adaryll, Taryll Adren and Tito Joe, the sons of
Tito. Stangely enough there were participants who missed out on the bonus,
though having the fragment correct.

11. (K) If it wasn't for bad luck, you know
I wouldn't have no luck at all

Albert King - Born under a bad sign - Born under a bad sign

Albert's version came before Cream's, as the alphabet indicated correctly.

12. (L) Drawn into the streams of undefined illusions
Those diamond dreams, they can't disguise the truth

Level 42 - Something about you - World machine

Scarcely recognized, though it has been quite popular back then when pop was
still ruling the world.

13. (M) Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed

Bette Midler - The rose - O.M.P.S. The rose

B13: In which movie did this song feature and what is love according to the
vocalist? [10]

It's from the movie "The rose" and in the live version she sings about what
'some say' love is, only revealing in the very end that she thinks love is a
rose. According to the original lyrics she sings that love is "a flower and
you are it's only seed; the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to
dance; the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes a chance; the one who
won't be taken, who cannot seem to give; the soul, afraid of dying, that never
learns to live" and therefore a flower, a rose and seed have all been accepted
as a correct answer.

14. (N) I've reached in darkness and come out with treasures
I've laid down with love and I've woke up with lies

Stevie Nicks - Sometimes it's a bitch - Timespace, the best of Stevie Nicks

It might also be Street angel, an older album, but I coudn't check this. Most
of you agreed upon Timespace, though some gave albums that do not contain
Sometimes it's a bitch at all... Hence full points for Street angel and
Timespace...

B14: What links this artist to fragment 6? [5]

She was a long time member and singer of Fleetwood Mac.

15. (O) Drifting and free on a mystical sea
A drop in the ocean, a hush in the air

Mike Oldfield - Foreign affair - Crisis

16. (P) Yeah, well it hurt me real bad when you left
Hell, I'm glad you got out, but...

Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson - Candy - Brick by brick

B16: Who sings this fragment and what band is he or she from? [10]

Kate's from the B52's

17. (Q) Touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips

Queen - Who wants to live forever - A kind of magic

18. (R) But don't let my glad expression give you the wrong impression
Really I'm sad, I'm sadder than sad

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Tears of a clown - A quiet storm

I couldn't check whether Make it happen is older than A quiet storm and
whether it does indeed contain Tears of a clown, so full points to both...

19. (S) You stole my heart and that's what really hurts
All I needed was a friend, to lend a guiding hand

Rod Stewart - Maggie Mae - Every picture tells a story

B19: Which artists have covered this song or sung it live regularly? [10]

Melissa Etheridge (live versions available on bootlegs),
Blur (on the CD-single Chemical world),
Counting crows (live versions available on bootlegs),
The pogues (live version on the EP Fairytale of New York),
Beatles (live version on the bootleg Studio mystery tracks vol. 2) and
some people have claimed the Stones as well.

20. (T) It was a flight on the wings of a young girl's dreams
That flew too far away

T'pau - China in your hand - Bridge of spies

21. (U) The warmth of your hand and a cold grey sky
It fades to the distance

Ultravox - Vienna - Vienna

22. (V) Number every page in silver
Underline in magic marker

Suzanne Vega - Book of dreams - Days of open hand

Hardly recognized...

23. (W) Boom boom lacca lacca boom boom

Was (not was) - Walk the Dinosaur - What up, dog?

B23: A member of this band has been quite successful as producer, of which
famous rock bands for example? [10]

Don Was was or is the producer of Bonnie Raitt, the B52's, Iggy Pop, Paula
Abdul, Khaled, Willie Nelson, Indigo girls and the Rolling stones (probably
among others).

24. (?) Red, white and blue
Boys and girls
Tonight everything the same
Some people said "It's dying"
But we don't wanna play that game

O-> - Rock and roll is alive (and it lives in Minneapolis) - Gold (CD single)

artist? [5]

He married Mayte Garcia on that day.

Shout with open eyes far below the deepest treasure

Yes - Miracle of life - Union
