Allemaal prachtig, maar het is wel hollen of stil staan met jou. Kun je
proberen om het iets gelijkmatiger aan te bieden? In de laatste weken komt
er ware vloedgolf van downloads het scherm op rollen. Nog even en we
verzuipen...

Het is niet zo dat je wat vandaag online komt je vandaag moet downloaden.
Alles staat ruim een jaar online.

Ja we hebben veel nog wel wat.
Op mijn harde schijf staan, even zitten gaan en met 4 poten van je stoel op
de grond.
Ja zet de voeten ook goed neer op de grond,
3986 opnames klaar staan
Hollen of stil staan: soms hol ik om daarna mijn aan dacht weer aan mijn
gezin te geven.
Kijk de weekende zijn de enigste dagen dat we met zijn 4 iets kunnen doen,
dus die besteed ik daar aan.
Ik werk of s morgens of s avonds, de keren dat ik dus alleen thuis ben ga ik
lekker aan de slag met de club.
En ja de video recorder is ook aan het werk want we gaan jullie ook video
voor zetten.
Ik krijg zelfs nu nog vragen of er niet wat vaker wat neer gezet kan worden.
Maar goed er komt weer een dag Mi Amigo aan een middag RNI en een dag
Veronica.
Dus Leendert download waneer jij wilt downloaden, je hebt er de tijd voor.
En voor wie dacht dat de opnames wel op het einde zullen lopen, dat is
compleet mis gedacht.
Harm en ik hebben nog wat bandjes die nog gedaan moeten worden.
De Downloadclub zijn streven is om het 25 jarig jubileum met jullie te
kunnen vieren.

We stoppen als we elke uitzending die er OOIT is opgenomen digitaal gemaakt
hebben
De dag er op stop ik en ga alles afluisteren.
Voor alle duidelijkheid ik ga pas dood als ik al onze opnames beluisterd
heb.

I love it when previously unknown recordings are discovered of the original offshore stations from the 60's, especially when the recordings are very good quality, and from a momentous date such as the ones below. These were originally recorded on reel-to-reel tape in a second floor flat on the Belgian coast, overlooking the North Sea. As you can imagine, the signal over the water path from the Mi Amigo was excellent. The recordings were recently digitized for the first time, and have been forwarded to us by Herman from Gent, who knows the owner of the tapes.
The first recording, of Ross Brown on the afternoon of 14th Aug 1967, overlaps one that we already had in the archive, but this new one is better quality. I have therefore combined the two recordings; the quality now improves part way through, and continues for 10 minutes longer than what we already had.
The second recording, of about the first one hour 37 minutes of the Robbie Dale show on that evening, is an all-new discovery that I am extremely happy to be able to add to the archive. If you listen carefully, you will hear an occasional lightening crackle, but otherwise the quality is about as good as you could possibly expect from 50+ year-old tape.

Herman says to be sure I tell you the tape was recorded at 19 cm/sec (7½ ips in old money), so the quality is pretty good. There is a short gap of a few minutes in the second hour from around 4:28-4:32pm, when presumably the tape was being turned over. Herman transferred the tape to MiniDisc some years ago, but this is the first time it is being made available online anywhere. Enjoy!

Last year I was pleased to be able to post a relatively good quality recording of Robbie Dale on Caroline South the morning after the Marine Offences Act went into effect. That inspired Alan Sheead to work his restoration magic once again, and now I can post a restored version which retains all Robbie's original links, but seamlessly matches them with studio quality music. For those who appreciated the 60's era of our favourite radio station, this one really is a joy to listen to.

Ric Jonns was a DJ on Radios Caroline South and North in 1964-1965. The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame has quite a lot of information about him, and an extensive interview, here:

Sadly, there is no known recording of him on Caroline, other than the very short aircheck that accompanies that article. However, Brian Nichols was recently able to send me a short recording of him on a station in Ohio in October 1966, when he was using the name 'Richard IV' (the fourth) and styling his show as 'The Court of Richard IV'. This too has been airchecked down to just over 4 minutes, but it's worth a listen. His presentation style clearly became more professional during his time in the States! In some ways, he sounds very similar to Tony Prince. Before joining Caroline, he was working in Oldham, Lancs, so it's hardly surprising he had a similar accent. We don 't know the exact date of this recording, but it sounds like a weekend afternoon, because they were going to start running down "the new WIZE Hitline Survey" (chart) at 3pm. The recording is now downloadable from:

It was recorded by Roger Day, on board the MV Mi Amigo, shortly after the two Caroline ships were towed to Holland in March 1968. Several times he makes reference to the station having been launched "about four years ago, at Easter 1964", which would put the date of the recording either in late March or early April 1968. Easter 1968 was on April 14th. He says he intends the recording to be "an epitaph to Radio Caroline" (... oh ye of little faith!), and it was apparently released as a 45rpm single (sides A and B) in the UK. It is now posted in the Radio Caroline South folder, here:
