I typically use taskkill, e.g. taskkill /f /im mspaint.exe or taskkill /f /im putty.exe, however my understanding is that Windows photo viewer is part of the explorer.exe process, which I don't want to terminate.
You probably need to add the RT_sRBG profile to windows, this maybe of some help: -us/windows/forum/windows_8-pictures/widows-photo-viewer-in-windows-8-have-annoying/c59d7fda-508e-4e1e-b8a8-2350a755e2b2?auth=1

Mentioned in case something odd is happening with your monitor profile. For instance I have never done anything to RT to take care of this and it just works. I suspect you need to install it system wide. However it could be that you do need to make the RT profile available to windows. However the profiles should be mapable from one to another.
Morgan_Hardwood That is the behaviour I expected, but why it is not working that way? Afaik Windows Viewer is color managed, it has no problems with LR or DXO photos. How can I check if RT and viewer use the same monitod profile and rendering intent?

After switching to a new laptop, (Dell XPS 15), using my same old monitor (Dell as well), I spotted some really bad colour differences between Photoshop and Windows 10 Photo Viewer.
Some of the things that I've already tried & observed:
1. I did look a lot into colour management. I bought the Windows 10 Colour Managed version and exactly the same result.
2. I tried using Paint & Paint 3d for opening up the image & potential editing, same colour issue was present.
3. I did NOT change any of the settings that the photoshop comes with. I also tried to reinstall & delete the settings file of photoshop.
4. My exported versions are all in sRGB. I also tried swithing to other profiles and exporting as sRGB, without any effect.
5. The only way I managed to get it working is by changing the Proof Setup to Monitor RGB, but I don't have any idea why, after a short period of time(a few hours) this fix was not working anymore.
Tried the solutions from this post with no result. Proof setup was the only way and it now doesn't work again.

Hey thanaks for this, but recently when updates my windows to 1709 version, whenever i open any photo in Windows Photo Viewer, its taking almost 5-10 sec to open the photo. I got this issue earlier too than formatted my PC. Please help me with it.

none of this method works for me. I recently had my laptop formatted. and windows 10 was directly installed. windows photo viewer is available in open with but not as default app. please help me.
Apart from this, when you maintain smartphone backup on computer, the device backup suite on PC can cause the error. Try to view the images after uninstalling the Android phone backup suite. Sometimes, the imported images from Android phones do not open in the photo viewer because of the encryption settings. You can remove the encryption on the image file to view it in Windows Photo Viewer.
I recently purchased dell laptop that came with windows 10 installed. When transfer photos in drive and open I get this error and I think its problem with the Photo Viewer and Photos. What I do to fix it? Please help!
Hi Stevens, Please update your windows OS and driver in your laptop. And if you are open raw files on Windows Photo Viewer you need to open it another supporting application such as Adobe Photoshop, raw image viewer. Thanks!

Hi Ray, I suggest please updates you windows because software updated will fix bugs and other issues. If the problem is same you can try our software demo version and see the preview of your repaired jpeg files.
Although the interface in Microsoft Photos is simple, it includes a range of options that you will find quite helpful. Not only will the viewer let you open each image on your PC's hard drive, but you can also organize all your content into folders and albums, making it a lot easier to locate any file. There is even the option to turn on the face detection to divide your photos according to who appears in them.
Confronting the historical assumption that leads us to see screens as windows, Dwyer Kilcollin studies digital processes that make scenes appear before our eyes. In a series of works she refers to as Tableaux, Kilcollin makes computer generated renderings of still life arrangements and casts them using a unique, almost analog 3D printing process. The vaguely rectangular sculptures resemble paintings, but they have the texture of sedimentary rock or drip towers made of sand. The final product is far removed from any original source, and the works take on characteristics of their own as sculptures. The Tableaux serve as melting monuments to the sovereign subject looking out upon the landscape, and the idea that what we see with our eyes is truth.
