Hello,

This morning I turned on my computer, then walked away... and then as
I was away I noticed how the graphics cards fan kept spinning at top
speed.

I thought something must be wrong because normally they spindle
down... after boot.

And indeed something was wrong... the screen did not come on ?!

I simply could not believe it ?!

This is I think the third time that my "DreamPC 2006" has died in only
3 years ?!

After trying on/off a couple of times the screen still did not come
on.

I decided to remove some memory sticks because last time that was the
problem. So I removed all 4.

Then I did something stupid. I quickly stuck one memory stick back
in... but it was the wrong way around. It looked like it was in
properly though... but I think it wasn't... I did hear a click but I
am pretty sure it was still the wrong way around... It's just like a
millimeter difference between correct fit the correct way, and
incorrect fit the wrong way.

(I had just woken up, I had little light and darkness ofcourse
everywhere... because of black plastic etc, but ok.)

Not noticing it I turned on my "DreamPC 2006"... then I smelled this
incredibly bad smell.

A really bad burning smell... I have read other people describe such a
bad burning smell... so I thought... something is burning up... maybe
power supply ? but it looked ok... the fans where all spinning.

It smelled like paper burning.

I was like gjez what the fuck is burning... is maybe something burning
outside ?!? So I opened door... lot's of traffic... first I thought
smell came from outside... I was like fuck... what a bad day to have a
hardware failure.

So I vented my place... lot's of traffic outside.

Ok smell gone... bad traffic smell in...

Then I smelled my "DreamPC 2006"... and I could notice there was still
this bad smell around the memory chip area.

So then I knew it was my PC... it was not the traffic outside.

I removed the memory chip... then I looked at how I placed it... I
wasn't sure (hard to see, my eyes not that good anymore either ;) :)
but close-up they should be fine...) but I think I had placed it
incorrectly... so now I am pretty sure about it because of the bad
smell.

And I smelled the memory chip... and oh boy ! Does it smell bad !

So that means now one memory chip fried as well probably.

However fortunately corsair sent me a backup chip in the past... so I
still have 4x1 GB sticks. (I only need 2 GB really) So I am ok at the
memory-front ;) :)

However my "DreamPC 2006" is still dead/in a coma.

I have been playing "Company of Heroe's Tales of Valor multiplayer a
couple of days... last days all graphics on low for nice speed. Before
that on medium...

The "Dream PC 2006" dust filters were all full with dust.

I was too lazy to clean it...

I noticed how the sound started to crackle while playing company's of
heroe's after some hours... so I get worried...

Turned the fans on higher... even with dust filters full.

Then a day later I cleaned the dust filters...

That was a couple of days ago... then played some more CoH ToV.

And now my DreamPC 2006 seems dead ?!?!?!?!?

For me this is pretty fucking unbelievable because my previous PC's
still work (which I am typing this message on) but at the same time
this doesn't surprise me at all.

The most likely cause *again* could be HEAT.

The second most likely cause could be *electrical failure because of
TL-light coming on in kitchen and going on."

I can hear the speakersets "plop plop plop" when the TL-light goes on.

My surround sound receiver has died as well not so long again... most
likely cause HEAT.

Second most likely cause electrical failure.

I have a backup motherboard so I can try and use that to rebuild my
DreamPC later on to see if the motherboard is dead...

It probably is dead.

I think the NVIDIA graphics cards GTX 7900 is the most likely cause of
the HEAT ?!?

So I feel like blaming NVIDIA for all of this HEAT problems I am
having with my DreamPC.

Ofcourse the dust filters have to do with it as well.

So I also blame AMD partially and I blame the whole electronics
industry for making SUCH HOT equipment.

I have learned big lessons from this:

The lesson learn is:

"Do not spent a lot of money on electronics in the future... until
they sort out the heat problems".

"Buy low heat electronics".

"Buy cheaply".

"Prepare to throw it away if it breaks".

^ Therefore get it cheaply ^

Just to do you doubters a favor I shall try to buy a "surge protector"
just in case my TL-light in the kitchen is fucking it up...

I am not sure what good such a surge protector will do because I don't
understand it just hoping for the best.

It kinda sux... because I was looking for a new place to live... but
that might have to wait a bit...

Fortunately my old pc's still working... however now I have to find
away around window's activation bullshit...

Fortunately I did install service packs in the past... so I am ok for
now.

However the coming days I will probably take a break from "computing"
in general just to have some kind of vacation after all of this
bullshit... and to do some other things :):):)

Suxxx though ;) :)

It's also kinda worrieing a bit since more and more goes via the
internet.

I also worry about what will happen when the internet comes to a stand-
still but we will all witness that in the near-future me thinks ?! ;)
<- high probability (?!?).

(Damn this chip-burn smell on my fingers too... and maybe in hair...
maybe even in lungs :(... but we all gonna die some day... so me not
so worried about that... so first thing I am gonna do later today is
take a shower :))

Bye,
Skybuck.

I just had a somewhat interesting idea to solve the "dust" problem.

I have a room in my appartment which I pretty much never enter. It's
pretty much dust free. (Dust is caused by me).

If I would place my PC there then it would probably collect almost no
dust at all.

The only problem is I would not long cables to my monitor and keyboard
and mouse.

Also holes would be needed somewhere to route the cables.

Another possibility would be wireless... but I don't like that so
much. Energy going through my body no thanks.

Drawbacks would be less control on what my PC is doing.

Also I would still need to enter and exit to turn on the PC... but
this could be done via a keyboard key... though I think this might
require some power.

My first idea was actually a little robot which scrapes of the dust
from the filters ;)

Another idea could be to simply get rid of the filters but this is a
bit risky... dust could build up quickly.

I kinda like the idea of trying to move my PC elsewhere... this would
also get rid of any additonal noise.

Though I also like the idea of listening to my harddisks to know what
the hell it's doing. So that info would no longer be available which
is a bit scary for me. Actually that's a pretty scary idea.. not being
able to hear my harddisks... for obvious reasons of virus/format
attack or stealings ! ;) :)

Another idea could be to leave the screws out 24 for of them... but
that is also a bit scary... definetly not gonna do that...
my hd-information is the most important thing so...

My best solution so far is really simple:

Build a very simple low heat pc in the future which requires very
little airflow ;) and still has decent performance for websurfing,
video viewing and a little bit of gaming.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Great idea. Put your PC in there, close the door and never enter the

It's frustrating that I now have to re-build my pc AGAIN... that's
gonna take a lot of time.

It's also frustrating to see so many bugs/shortcomings in electronics:

1. AMD Cooler to noisy.

(My solution: replaced with after market cooler: scythe zipang)

2. Chieftec case anti-vibration technology actually produces
vibrations.

(My solution: replaced with antec 1200 case)

3. Antec 1200 case has way to many screws around the dust filters,
even cleaning dust filters cost a lot of time.

(No solution as of yet)

4. NVIDIA Firewall in chipset works badly could even crash system.

(My solution: remove firewall software/drivers)

5. Windows ethernet driver for NVIDIA ethernet chip is buggy and can
crash system... still available on windowsupdate.

(My solution: stay with default drivers on cd's.)

6. NVIDIA Graphics card(s) become way too hot and damage other
equipment.

(My partial solution: remove one graphics cards, system still
died ?!?)

(No solution as of yet, maybe sell them ?)

7. X-Fi Elite pro 7.1 soundblaster driver still has bugs with 4 GB of
ram installed.

(My solution: set maxmem in windows to 2 GB)

8. Creative Labs Gigaworks S750 surround sound receiver is dead,
probably because of overheat.

(No solution :( )

9. Mitsumi 7-in-1 floppy drive, flash reader only worked a few days
and then died.

(Keep using floppy drive, to bad that flash reader died)

10. AMD Processor driver buggy and can crash system.

(My solution: remove unnecessary driver)

11. Asus motherboard SLI chipset probably becomes to hot

(No solution as of yet)

Do I feel ripped off ? You bet ya !

Am I a bit angry and frustrated ? You bet ya !

Can I sue ? No, because dutch law requires me to prove everything
which is unreasonable ?!? Unless judge agrees with me that the law
itself is unreasonable.

However let's look at the bright side of life:

"At least I wasn't one of those idiots who got on the "fly by wire"
airplane that's now missing !" ;)

However maybe that's a bit premature to assume electronics failure on
airplane because of electricity/lightning.

I'll give you my theory on it:

1. "Lightning struck the plane".

2. "Plane had fuel gasses in belly".

3. "Fuel ignited because of electricity/lightning going through
plane".

4. "Explosion !".

However I could ofcourse be wrong and the plane could have simply died
because of failing electronics/structural failure because of out of
control flight !

In that case I don't feel so bad no more LOL :) ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

Also for those people who don't get it, here is my explanation why I
think it's unreasonable:

"As a consumer I do not have laboratoriums/equipment to investigate/
prove everything, nor do I have the electronics/heat/chemical/sound
knowledge to prove everything or even describe it.".

Asking others/true laboratoriums to investigate the claims would also
cost way too much money ?!

However the manufacturer's do have a lot of money and probably do have
lot's of equipment and test setup's to investigate certain problems.

Therefore I would recommend a law system where the manufacturer is
obligated to repair a broken device during a lawsuit and then prove
which pieces were broken and why they were broken.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Such inspiring words ! I will get on to it immediatly ! ;)
Seriously ! ;) :)

Anyway... now that the patient is on my desk I smelled another chip..
I did one last test to see if it would come alive... but nope...
braindead...

However this chip is also smelling bad a little bit.

So now I am getting doubts about my previous statement that I
misplaced the chip ?!?

Maybe I did not misplace it ? Or maybe it doesn't matter... but there
is clearly a strange smell with the other chip as well...

I only tested shortly... so that could explain why it only smelling
slightly... or maybe it just took a bit of the smell over of the other
chip via motherboard.

However it's weird.

So it could be that the motherboard is actually frying the memory
chips... because the motherboard went bad.

^ Pure speculation ^ Which I will not investigate further to protect
my memory chips !

I do think I misplaced the first time though... maybe that damaged the
motherboard and now the motherboard is damaging the second memory chip
as well... could be...

Ofcourse the motherboard was already damaged as I wrote before...

I know this posting might be a bit confusion... but so is this whole
situation.

I am just hoping that my harddisks are ok... they are probably ok...

Later when I disassemble the computer I will take close look at the
motherboard and if I find anything interesting take pictures and show
them to you guys just for kicks ;) :)

But first I know you guys love it when I start speculating about other
causes so here is one more thing:

I never used the other 2 GB but they were still in the pc... maybe
this caused some kind of damage ?!

So question for people to research is:

"Can using only half the memory cause any kind of damage ?! ;)"

Goodbye for now,
and I go back to work on it,
Skybuck.

Also there is one other theory which I forgot to write about:

I did read about the new Scythe Zipang 2 cooler which has more
"tunnels" to let airflow through...

Apperently the firs Scythe Zipang obstructs the airflow a bit... which
also causes dust to settle ?!?

It was something like that at least.

So that's another theory... the big Zipang cooler might have
obstructed airflow around the memory chips area... and collect heat
there which could have damaged something.

It seems a bit unlikely because there is lots of room for heat to
escape and be sucked out or pushed out by big fan on top and inlet
fans... unless ofcourse when the inlet fans dust filters are full.

But even with the full dust filters.. the temperature inside seemed to
be at acceptable levels... about 50 to 51 degrees celcius.

(I rather see at least 45 degrees but ok...)

This fucking motherboard is damn hot to start with... last time I buy
such a hot motherboard me thinks... so no sli for me in the future but
I already wrote about that in the past... but I like to repeat it here
for those who missed it !

So there ya go folks !

Plenty of theory-investigations for you to go around and check out ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

Ok,

I have made a startling/worrieing/shocking/amazing discover:

I immediatly proceeded towards the most suspicious component: the
video card.

I removed it... took a look at it... and I noticed it was full with
dust !

I went outside and blowed it clean... there was more dust coming out
of it then EVER before.

Conclusions and possible theories:

1. The antec 1200 case dust filters completely FAIL to keep out
significant ammounts of dust. Maybe the dust is getting into the case
from the back side or even top side ?!

2. After only 6 months the video card is pretty much crapped out with
dust everywhere ! This could be because the increased airflow in this
case ?!

3. Therefore possible theory: The gathering of dust inside the video
card makes it unnecessary hot/unable to cool properly which could
cause damage to the motherboard ?!

Sounds like a very plausible theory. Therefore the HEATSINK TECHNOLOGY
IN GENERAL IS A TOTAL FAILURE.

It will not work properly if it's full with dust !

The nvidia graphics cards rely on the heatsinks to get rid of some of
the heat... also out of the back of the case... if these heatsinks/
heatfins are full with dust then ofcourse there is no airflow... and
the heat can't escape...

TOTAL and UTTER FAILURE.

It's amazing that the graphics card has survived... at least that's
the assumption. This proves the electronics of the cards itself is
superior compared to the motherboard which can't handle it.

Unless ofcourse electrical failure is the cause... but that could also
be caused by heat.

So far... DUST/HEAT seems main MURDER SUSPECT ! ;) :)

Bye,
Skybuck.

OH MY GOD ?!

I JUST SCREAMED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL ?! :)

I was unscrewing the screws of the motherboard when I noticed
something near the SATA ports...

I thought: "That must be some kind of dust-cloud/particle".

So I take it between my fingers to remove it... I lift it up... then I
notice it's rather black looking like a piece of plastic...

and then I realise it's some kind of bug ?! probably a fly ?! and as I
lift it up I throw it away and SCREAM LIKE A LITTLE GIRL !!!! LOL =D

That gave me a good scare ! LOL.

Now I go look where the fucker went...

I indeed had a little fly-invasion once... I don't know if it was
before or after the build... the build was during a hot summer... so
it could be that one of those fucking flies remained and entered...
ofcourse it could also be a fly from later on... that's more
probable...

FUCKING FLIES !

So a new theory could be:

The fly's body was short-circuiting some kind of connection between
the SATA ports ?!

This could actually be worrieing... me hoping this did not affect the
HD's.

This is also a good reason to make sure CASES have some kind of
protection... to protect from FUCKING BUGS ?!

Feels like one of those main-frame stories from the '60/70's and 80's
or so ?! SHIT don't these fools learn anything from the past ?! DOH.

Now I go search that fucking thing to verify/prove that it indeed was
a fly ?!?!? So I am not yet 100% sure ?! ;) :)

Fuck I can't find the fucking fly body ?!?

But there were indeed some flies in my house yesterday ?! Maybe it
were those who crawled in there ?!

FUCK if that is what caused this then I am going to FREAK OUT of
MADNESS ;) :

I HATE FUCKING FLIES.

This could also be a very good reason not to place any LEDS into
CASES ?!

It could attract bugs ?!

And cause nasty shit ?!!!!!!!

However there don't seem to be too many connections near the SATA
ports...

Or maybe the fly fall down from somewhere else.

However I have already removed the graphics card and all cables... and
I don't really feel like retesting...

But maybe I should do a retest... just to verify that the fly was not
causing a short circuit...

Yeah.. it won't be too much work to re-test... so I am going to re-
test just to be sure that it wasn't the fucking fly short circuiting
it...

It's easier then replacing the cpu heatsink and paste... so it's worth
a try... but I believe the motherboard is dead... but anyway I am
gonna do a retest ! ;)

I will report back soon ;)

OH MY GOD ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

MY PC LIFES AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS :)

I never expected it to come ON ?!

OH MY FUCKING GOD ?!

Ok I have two explanations for this:

1. The fly was causing a short-circuit.

or

2. One of the memory chips was bad and caused a failure.

This time I placed the memory chip in the correct slot: DIM_B1.

Windows now boots.

Ofcourse this could also be a fluke of luck... maybe it's just working
once...

Who knows... next thing to try is all 4 dimms to see what happens ?!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT BATMAN !!!! =D

Me kinda happy ! YEAH !

This prevents me from having to mess around with the cpu and paste
stuff...

Though I will try to blow the dust from the cpu heatsink later no
too ;)

Just a little bit ! =D

(I will let the subject name be the same so people can find this post
first if they ever read this later on in the future...

Later I will make a seperate post from my Dream PC to let the world
know everything is OK AGAIN ! =D ) TOTALLY LOL AND AMAZING AND
HAPPY :)

And ofcourse I will inspect the pictures for signs of flies... TOO !
FRICKING AMAZING !

TO BAD :((((( :( :( :( :( :( :( ;)

I was correct after all... it was just a fluke of luck. (Creative Labs
X-Fi Soundblaster was removed by the way).

I have seen this before... the last time my PC died it also worked
once... before ultimate death !

This is what I tried with soundblaster plugged in too:

1. 4x 1 GB sticks
2. 3x 1 GB sticks
3. 2x 1 GB sticks
4. 1x 1 GB sticks

Without soundblaster plugged in:

5. 1x 1 GB sticks

All with the same result:

NO BIOS screen.

PC remains BRAIN DEAD/IN A COMA.

However this time also something strange happened:

The power button seemed to kinda fail... system wouldn't come on... I
had to press power button multiple times.

It also happened multiple times during the re-testing.

So this could indicate two things:

1. Failure of motherboard.

or

2. Failure of power supply.

Fortunately I have a backup power supply.

Now I have to think what to try first:

1. Replace motherboard or

2. Replace power supply ?

Well there was a lighting storm not long ago... and seeing the my
surround sound receiver has died as well... maybe it's an eletrical
failure after all...

It's probably easier to do a quick test with the new power supply...
kinda shame though then I have to open it... and such... but I rather
try that then mess with the cpu/paste etc...

So first I am gonna try new power supply... and if that don't work
then replace motherboard.

I hope it's not the power supply because then I have to re-wire
everything.

But the power supply is "modular" so I could clean up some cables...
that could be cool.

So thumbs down for now !

Good thing I also didn't change the subject line since that would have
been bullshit.

So it seems my computer is damaged after all ! FUCKING SUX.

It's either heat or electrical damage...

I thought I solved the heat problem... so to me it's starting to seem
more like electrical problem this time...

Hmmm will be interesting to see...

Some more theories to think about though in the meanwhile:

1. Internet/television went down not so long ago.. maybe ISP has
something to do with it.. probably not though.

2. Some dutch people have been complaining about flickering lights.

Hmmm now that I think about it... I also have this problem at my
appertment... when I turn something on... the light flickers a bit.

An "expert" at electronics says this could be caused by "power-saving-
lamps" which are more or less manditory in European Union...

It could cause some kind of variability in power supply from power
supplier.

Maybe it could kill electronics as well ?!?

Just a theory/hypothesis though ;)

But for now I would put my money on either heat or maybe damage by
lightning... that happened some time ago ?!?

Ok,

I am getting a bit bored with this "rebuild" / "testing" so I took a
look at the pictures to see if there were any flies on the photo's...

Unfortunately the area near the top sata cable isn't clearly visible..
it's obstructed by a graphics cards and the big power cable.

I now have doubts if it actually was a fly... maybe it was just a
little bit of dust that fell off when I removed the graphics card.

Yeah... maybe my mind played tricks on me.. but then again... I still
really think it was the body of a fly :) lol.

It doesn't matter what it was... it's gone... it can't be found...
actually that could prove it was just dust... but ok... maybe I might
find it later on but nope... maybe it even stuck under my shoes now
who knows ;)

I am too bored to try out the new power supply thingie... then I have
to unpack it and read docs and all that shit... and I have to do other
things like:

TAKE A SHOWER :)

I still didn't do that which was a good thing ! Because now I smell
like dust ! ;) :)

So fuck you guys ! LOL :)

Me stinky ! :PPPP******

But not for LONG and then I go buy some NICE FRIES AND STUFF MY FACE
with krokets and frikandels too lol... don't even know the english
word for it.

And some nice mayonaise/frie saus and some ketchup/curry and
unions... and maybe a sprite/7-up or a fanta...

Yeah cause I been eating a lot of bread lately and it's time for some
FOOD to get more energy !

Yes I've been low on energy and it sucks too.

I saw a show about rednecks working on oil-riggs and they eat lot's of
stuff for energy ?!

Apperently they don't get that fat ?! It's from all the working...
kinda amazing.

That's what I need... dirty filthy food to burn... I do hope I don't
get too fat though ;) :)

That worries me... all this greace... but ok. :):):)

I need salts too... but I already had those... and peppers... but now
FRIES... yes JUMMY SUCKY FRIES ! :P*****

Tomorrow... or maybe later to night I might continue...

Bye,
Skybuck.

Hey Pleerol,

Some more story for you guys to enjoy or hate/horror at:

I just wanted to listen to some youtube music and as I moved the mouse
cursor over an interesting video... my old pentium III 450 mhz seemed
to reset itself completely... like some kind of power failure.

I think I have seen this "bug ?" before... it might simply be a
windows xp bug... Microsoft also updated my PC even though it's an
illegal windows version...

It also tries to install when it shutsdown... but it never finishes
the install... maybe it doesn't have permission... or maybe it's
because it's illegal... or maybe it's because some services ain't
running.

So this could be another nice example of Microshit fucking up
miserably as usual... I applaud them for trying to protect my computer
from viruses and trojans but it doesn't seem to be working well...

It's also questionable if they should even be allowed to update my
software like internet explorer etc...

If it's working why bother with it... but... ofcourse there could be
unfixed bugs...

However let's speculate about other reasons...

I did overclock my pentium III 450 to 600 mhz... I am not sure if it's
running at 450 or 600 I''ll check... (it does have good cpu cooler me
thinks)

Nope it's running at 450 mhz... so that's smart of me... to keep it
running cool... ofcourse I could have damaged it in the passed because
of broken cpu cooler or maybe overclock... I think I wrote about this
before... but I find it fun to write about it again... because now I
also have a new theory (also to remind me):

Something far bigger could be going on:

I shall call this:

"The bad energy company theory".

Let's think about this for a moment:

The PC industry is crashing and burning... not many PC's are being
sold... those people need to sell more stuff ?!

So what do they do:

They give some money to the energy company and say:

"Hey if you guys overload the energy supply then all these computers
will die" and that's good for our bussiness...

Then people have to buy new shit !

Could be... especially with all the flickering of the lights going
on !

Major conspiracy theory going on there !

Ofcourse it could also just be a microsoft bug where there are plenty
off... and major just old equipment... but it used to work pretty
well..

Last theory is ofcourse the FX 5200 nvidia card could be crap as
well... it's not very well tested by me... I used to have a TNT2
card ;)

I just hope my pentium III 450 mhz stays working until my Dream PC is
back online ?!

The reason I write this down is just to show to you, me and everybody
that even relieing on backup computers is a bit dangerous... and it
also makes totally clear why my DreamPC must survive:

I need it as a backup computer in the future !

Also a very interesting conspiracy theory in this thread/post ! ;)

However maybe if this was true my television should have died as
well... unless maybe it's stronger ?! ;)

And maybe cable modem still good too...

So that only leaves attack via cable modem/ethernet but that's
unlikely...

Could maybe be wireleslly... but my pc has nothing wireless...

Last possibility could be bios-attack via windows update or so...
that's definetly possible... but ok.

Just some nice theories for you to keep the blood pumping ! ;)

Goodbye,
And now I try to watch some fricking youtube videos again ;) :)
and then me go take shower and get fries ! ;)
Skybuck.

Ok today, sunday, I woke up...

A bit tired from the fucking neighbours (literally lol).

They (mostly she) went like: "oooohhh" and "ahhhh" and "hhmmmm" and
"oooooh" LOL.

I bet it was her first time anal or something LOL.

(In case my neighbours read this: HI NEIGHBOURS ! ME WAVES AT YOU, YOU
KNOW WHO YOU ARE ;) :) :P =D)

Fortunately later on I got some more sleep in morning light and now I
feel alright... hey that rhymes ?!

Ok what else did I do:

I tested the OCZ Stream power supply or called something like that.

So I have two power supplies:

The Seasonic S12 600 watt power supply made in china !

The OCZ Stream something 750 watt modular also made in china ?!

So that's the first remarkable thing !

Both made in china ! WOW ouch.

However the Seasonic seems of a slightly higher quality build.

The OCZ Stream actually has white GLUE in it ?! FOR GODSSAKES. Maybe
my neighbours came in it ?! LOL. NOT.

What's with all the glue lately ?! Crazy !

Anyway the OCZ Stream thingy worked... I just connected power supply
and extra connector and vidia card.

However the computer itself ofcourse didn't work... the power came
on... but nothing on the scream...

And power on/off still shakey...

So most likely it's the motherboard that's bad... and that means I
have to replace it... and do the whole cpu thing... and that sux...

Maybe designers can make motherboards in such a way that the paste
material doesn't need to be removed... just take out whole cpu and
paste and stuff it somewhere else...

The fan in the OCZ Stream is ball bearing... Also... I am a bit
worried if it can be placed up side down.. just like seasonic... it
probably can... however ball bearing cant be done vertically ? or was
it horizontally ? hmm can't remember.

I read somewhere ball bearing has to be in a certain orientation... or
maybe that was bullshit... but I don' think so...

Maybe it's only good for horizontal ok ? In that case it would be ok
as long as it can be upside down too ;)

It also had a nice blue light on it... it wasn't too shiny... so it
won't make my eyes bright...

However it was a bit larger than the seasonic s12...

So far I think seasonic s12 is better because it doesn't have any
glue... also it's main power connector is better.. because it's
attached together...

The OCZ Stream had a bit cumbersome power connector but it's a slight
inconvience.

It also came with a black strap or something to hold together the
cables... and further the cables looked alright.

The glue is worrieing though. So I am gonna stick with the Seasonic
S12 this also prevents me from having to re-do all the cabling which
is a big mess and what take ages to re-do ;).

Just rebuilding pc is probably gonna take the whole fricking day...
gotta clean of the paste... gotta clean cpu... stick it back in etc
etc etc...

And I am not even sure it's gonna work but probably..

Oh yeah that reminds me... I am not sure if the current dead
motherboard was the replacement... or if it was the new one...

I will have to figure that out later on...

And maybe I still have some warranty on it ?! There should be
maybe ?!? Or maybe it also just went out of warranty... however I also
bought a new one last year... or so... so maybe can use that
warranty... who knows ;) :) :P *** :)

It will also be interesting to find out if the memory chip survived
the miss placement/warm bath ? That would be impressive.

But now first I go EAT and play a little song. I wish I had my
surround sound receiver then I could wake the neighbours LOL.

Just kidding lol... let them rott lol :) so I can have some piece and
quiteness LOL.

(First time I write a dirty posting about other people LOL so far I am
laughing my ass off LOL :):):))

Bye,
Skybuck ;) :)

"I DID, I DID, I DID SEE A DEAD FLY !" :)

People... I just found the fucking flyyyyyy !!!!!!

Good to know that my mind was not playing tricks on me... and now you
take a big guess where the fly was ?!

.
.
It was still on the motherboard ! Totally funny and good to know !

Apperently I was scared so much I simply dropped the fly... it slipped
out of my fingers and fell back down onto the motherboard where I
couldn't see it.

Either that or this is a second dead body fly.

It was hiding under the heatsink/pipes !

I made a nice close-up picture of it... later I will put it on my
webdrive and post a link to the picture !

But not now because I don't want to do that now... I want to take my
time for it and make a nice webpage for it... as usual... and
hopefully from my nice DreamPC when it's back together ?!? ;)

Later I will put up a webpage in honor of the dead fly ! ;):

I will call it:

R.I.H dead fly :) "Rest In Hell" dead fly ! LOL.

Ok,

I have removed the dead motherboard and inspected it for damage.

The revision was asus A8N32 SLI 1.01.

There were no clear signs of damage except one peculiar thing which I
took a photo of and will post later when my pc is working again ;) :)

I noticed what seemed like damage on one of the memory slots. One tiny
little copper pin inside the memory slot seemed to be broken/missing.
This could explain why the X-FI Elite pro sound blaster had troubles
with 4 GB memory installed... maybe because of a pin missing ? However
it also had problems with the previous same board... so I doubt this
is the cause but it could be...

The damage looks like physical damage... I don't know if I caused it
or if it was already present when I got it...

I can't imagine that I damaged it... the damage also seems to be hard
to do and "baked" in... so to me it seems like a production failure.
Later on you get to see it for yourself...

Now I have also taken a look at the "new" motherboard. Actually it's
not new it seems "refurbished". This is the one from iComputers which
went bankrupt...

I hope it works though... this also means the dead motherboard was
probably from alternate... this was the new motherboard with an older
revision strangely enough ? Or maybe I am mistaken and it was from
iComputers... whatever the case... I can't remember which is a good
thing... now I can simply try and sent the dead motherboard back to
alternate where I probably still should have plenty of warranty...
however just to be fair and to be logical I shall try to figure out to
who the dead motherboard really belongs... since I honest to god
wouldn't know right now...

I probably reported it somewhere in one of my other messages long
ago... so I need to look into that when I enter a possible RMA-
state ;) right now I am in the REPAIR-state LOL :) So I can't be
bothered with that right now :)

There was also same paste material on the new motherboard... I am
pretty sure I wrote about that in the past... I would have noticed
this me thinks... so this will easily help me figure it out later.

The interesting thing is that the new motherboard says:

Revision 1.01G.

So me hoping it's any good ;) I really hope it works... if it doesn't
work I ll be badly screwed.

Also I will take this oppertunity to try out a different orientation
for the Scythe Zipang cooler...

I am pretty sure that many people will be interested in my findings !
LOL.

Since this is still remains a mystery to this day ;) So I am gonna
find out the "thruth" at least for my case situation...

I must admit I am quite curious about that... I am a bit worried about
my ram chips... but I am gonna say: what the fuck.. let's try it out
with this piece of shit :)

OH WAIT There is one more interesting thing about this cooler. The fan
actually have two kinds of airflows which could help explain the
mystery:

It has a top down airflow which it's well known for... but it also has
a side-ways airflow... I placed it in such a way that the airflow is
blowing against the memory chips... and therefore it's also blowing
against the general airflow which could be a bad thing...

This time I will place the thing in such a way that the heatpipes are
horizontally as the "product manager" recommended... and also the
review side that mentioned the 9 degrees difference discovery... and
also some other sites...

Also the big fan could help suck hot air between fins away... and I
also saw some thermal imaging from other cases and it appeared that
most of the heat was actualling going out the top of the case... so
that's why I want the zipang fan to be blowing upwards as well...
maybe that gonna help.

Then later after I have done a fair comparision I will go into the
bios and put the AMD Cool & Quiet back on or something like that...

So that the CPU enters idle/power saving state to try and bring down
the temperatures further when my pc is idle... maybe this will prolong
it's life assuming that the constant power flucations don't hurt ?!?

Also I wonder if temperature fluctuations could actually shorten it's
life... but what the fuck... it's a piece of crap anyway :) so fuck
this piece of shit :) LOL.

Also I have another explanation why my motherboard still died:

I might have been incorrect... this might only be the SECOND death...
not the third ?!?

I think my motherboard didn't die the "second time"... I just replaced
the case... to get rid of the annoying vibration sound of the other
case... and also the memory chips were bad.

So the point is:

The motherboard might have suffered heat and even discharge damage
from the old bad case/airflow and also the plastic sticker bullshit
that dropped on it.

So if that's what happens then maybe now my computer might survive...
so maybe I shouldn't make these changes I plan... but I am still gonna
do it because I am a curious little creature :)

Also it might save on my electricity bill which could be a bit
high ? ;)

I just hoping the motherboard works... otherwise I am gonna do a
"death-scream" but inside me only :)

"Aaaah/ieeek" :)

I also replaced a power-socket-thing-extension that plugs into the
wall with a new thingy... hoping that it might help the "TL light plop
plop plop" phenomenon... but it actually makes it a bit worse... maybe
it even of less quality ? gjez...

But I am still gonna use it...

I promised you guys I would get a surge protector just in case... I
still have to do that... a promise is a promise so I will look into
that on monday or so when stores open... or maybe I check it out on
websites first...

Any recommendations are welcome but will be scrutinized by me
ofcourse ;)

Well ok steps planned:

1. Clean cpu a bit more.

2. Clean heatsink plate a bit more.

3. Place cpu on motherboard, tighten it.

4. Apply paste material... I would almost forget about this step lol.

5. Place heatsink on it horizontally, secure it. (First I have to
remount the bracket)

I just checked it there is like 1 to 2 millimeters of air between the
heatpipes and the memory chips..

So there are not touching so I will give it a go...

This would also blow some air towards the memory chip and maybe also
over the north bridge chip/heatsink.. which might help as well.

And the big fan should be able to suck more hot air out between the
fins as well...

Also I just realized something... the plates on the side might prevent
dust from being blown in... but then ofcourse if the heat fins are
vertical then dust might fall back between them when the computer is
off or so... but this should not be much of a problem... also the air
in is probably filtered... so... but still kinda interesting these
plates...

So all in all in theory maybe horizontal orientation should perform
better... it will be most interesting to find out.

Also now I think it's a good idea to get rid of the hot heat pipes
from the center of the motherboard... now the will be over the memory
chips... near the big fan as well.. and being cooled by air in as
well... and probably more air space at critical sections... so
hopefully my computer won't die again within a year cause that would
fucking really suck.

Also some said the gravity actually works against it... the gasses
wouldn't be able to move freely if it was vertical... then others said
the opposite... but the horizontal kinda sounds believable too... and
the vertical might be the old fashioned way...

So interesting interesting and interesting test coming ahead... to
it's getting late... but I think I can finish it before I hit bed...
unless cleaning takes a long time...

Also the zipang is a blessing compared to other cooler or maybe not...
it was easy to remove thanks to moveable clips on the side with a
screwdriver... but maybe I broke off some black plastic somewhere from
the motherboard since a little black thingy fell out.. I made
screenshot of that...

Or maybe it wasn't that much of blessing compared to amd cooler...
maybe it simply was because I used less thermal paste material and
also moved the cooler a bit... because last time there was this
fricking vacuum causing the cooler not to come off... but this time it
came off the cpu nicely... which I am really happy about.... last time
I almost damaged the cpu because I ripped it out in one go... had no
choice... even had to bent back a pin... but it's ok now...

I am very happy that went well this time ;) :) little bit of broken
plastic off is minor damage to old motherboard... I am not even sure
where it was from... I didn't put that much force on it... so that's a
bit weird. Maybe it was some rest plastic or so or maybe it was a
weakpoint or so...

Also I am glad my cooler is still in one piece/intact... Since I will
need it ! LOL no way I am going back to that old noisy amd cooler.

I was also wondering if I should attach a side fan to the cpu hole
area... but I think I explored this possiblity before and I wouldn't
know how to attach it to the door... so that's weird... it also might
obstruct airflow... also there is a dust filter there... so I really
must keep those dust filters clear otherwise I am gonna be screwed...

Maybe it's even better to remove them completely... then maybe the cpu
heatsink would get full with dust... and maybe the graphics cards...
but both the cpu and the graphics cards seem to handle heat just
fine...

It's the motherboard that always fucking dies...

So top priority should be to remove heat from the motherboard area and
not so much cpu and graphics cards... unless the heat travels via the
motherboard itself ?!?

I think I will go on the safe side and remove the dust filters just to
see what happens... but then at the same time... I won't have any idea
when the clean the cpu and the graphics cards...

However the dust filters didn't really help anyway... it might have
actually increased the likely hood of death.

So I will remove them motherfuckers and simply inspect the situation a
couple of months from now to see what happens to the inside ! ;)

However there is one big danger: The power supply which is at the
bottom could get full with dust... and might catch fire...
that a bit risky... I could place one of them dust filters loose
inside the pc case on top of it to prevent any dust from falling into
it... but I am against loose particles in my case so won't do it... I
will inspect and blow the shit out of the power supply to see what
happens... so fingers crossed. Also if those filters get full my power
supply might die... so better not to do that...

At least fire will be easy to spot if I am there LOL. :)

However burning down my appertment while I sleep is not a pleasent
thought... but I will risk it just for kicks ;) :) LOL
BURN MOTHERFUCKER BURN YES LOL that would be nice wouldn't it ;)

Hopefully only my PC will then burn...

So I should be carefull with letting my pc on at night...but I think
it gonna be alright...

Also maybe increasing the air flow in the pc will blow dust out more
quickly... and give it less time to settle...
slow air flow might make it easier for dust to settle... so... maybe
removing air filters will make air travel a bit faster...

The fan blades themselfes will get a bit more dust on them but I don't
care so much about them... they'll be just fine...

Also some fans inside might collect dust and require re-oiling... the
squeeking will tell me when it's time to re-oil... that's a bit of a
problem for the gpu/graphics cards but last time it seemed to work...
it somehow sucked it up from outside it's board or something hehe. or
spinning or fan shaft or whatever... so much oil back then hehe.

Ok peeps.. that's a lot of information and a lot of drivel for one
post... I would be amazed if you actually read this far !

Congrats to you for making it alive out of this post ! =D

Holyshit...

I just had an encounter with a second bug ?!

This time an alive one ?!

It was some kind of little crawler... like a little worm with legs.

Maybe it came from the motherboard bag or something... or maybe it was
crawling around on my dust table all this time...

But my bet it it was from the other room via motherboard or carton or
whatever... maybe it was hiding in the carton.

Skybuck electronics rule: Real-live fucking bugs never come alone ;)
LOL. They would be lonely ;) :)

Ok, it's late but I am going to proceed... I want this build done for
as far as possible today...

I am not gonna rush anything... just gonna see how far I get...
heatsink mounted already so at least the build should proceed quickly
now...

However I will need time to figure out the bios settings possibly ;)
But that should go pretty fast as well because I know the bios pretty
well... unless it has some new settings or so...

I also might have to "document/photograph" initial settings in case
those matter... yeah.

These bugs giving me itches ! Maybe it's the dust I blew out of the
cpu heatsink... yeah that was pretty much fine dust in there too.

Also I should still blow out the dust from the power supply as well..
did that already not so long ago but it was just quickly...

I have no where to blow the dust too... so it will just go over my
table but it's better than nothing... otherwise I would have to detach
it...

Hmm I also just noticed the table is resonating my typing... me down
stairs neighbours won't like that ?! testing testing
testing... testing... Hmm maybe clapping out the legs will help a
bit... yeah it seems to help just a little bit... but not enough...

Hmm so note to keyboard manufactures maybe include some nice soft feet
to reduce vibrations to table... ok.

Also here is my theory on why (yeah it's helping the keyboad paws) the
dust filters on the antec 1200 case don't work so well:

First the dust filters will get full with fine dust... after that
happens the airflow will be distrubed... and the case will start
sucking in air from all the holes... and big dust can easily go in
there... this explains the bigger dust in the gpu... the gpu also
sucking in dust from the back side...

So by removing the filters... the pressure in the case could go up at
all times helping maybe to push out dust from the back... but at the
same time also blowing in big dust from the front... maybe I could let
the lower filter be in place just to prevent table dust from going in
there... me don't know yet... but I will probably remove the dust
filters later on...

But for now for fair comparisions I will keep them in to test the new
cpu heatsink orientation ;)

Skybuck.

Ok,

The main work for the re-build is now done, I gave it a quick test and
the new motherboard is working.

It even detected 4 GB of ram... so maybe all ram chips still good.

Something surprised me though... when I pressed the power button again
it immediatly switch off... that was kinda nice.

Also I now wonder if I connected the reset switch vs power switch
cables correctly the last time I tested with the presumebly dead
motherboard... I am not sure maybe I didn't check or maybe I did... I
probably did...

I assume when power comes on it's on... so the old motherboard is now
100% sure dead...

The new motherboard is working so far... I didn't have a chance to
explore the bios yet... since the computer is partially in the way. (I
actually forgot to connect the power switch and reset switch at first
lol :) I was like wtf ? :) LOL )

So only thing left to do is place it where it belongs... right next to
me on the table ! =D Yeah baby ! ;) :)

And then stick the stickers for the cables back together since those
go loose a bit...

I shall now also explain why it looks kinda weird: I let the cables go
with the flow when I did the "third rebuild". To prevent the cables
from putting any force on the plastic stickers... "you gotta let it
flow... go with the flow me says !" :)

Actually I probably learned that from the youtube dude ! :)

Things are looking good... I am also hoping the new orientation helps
or doesn't make it worse at least otherwise I might have to work some
more on it and change it orientation but as I wrote before I have a
feeling it's gonna be ok but feelings can be deceiving... I also blew
a bit of dust out of the power supply. I checked the graphics card...
the bit of oil I spilled months ago or year ago does attract some dust
but it's ok... the space between the fins mostly clear.

So as I was writing... :

1. Place case back where it belongs.

2. Reattach stickers for as far as possible to keep cables tight and
neat.

3. Close computer case.

4. Clean up a lot of stuff.

5. Recable all the external cables...

6. Pull back monitor attach everything like mouse and maybe
speakerset...

7. Store back manuals...

8. Store dead motherboard for possibly RMA.

9. Dust off the table a bit.

10. Maybe vacuumclean the whole fucking place :) but to late for
that... maybe tomorrow or so.

11. Then check out the bios.

12. Set it up.

13. Maybe run a windows memory test if possible.

14. Maybe run some tests of my own.

15. Get my source code of of it and place it on my old computer
because that worried me a bit... and also make a backup of it on a
cd... yeah. Me don't wanna loose some great unbacked-up stuff in
there... and I was also starting to work on improving my older
stuff ;)

16. Then do some more stress testing and look at the temperatures to
compare against previous situation to see if it matters.

17. Maybe also experiment with removing dust filters to see if and how
that effects temperature... but they clean at the moment so I don't
expect it to matter a lot... but I would still expect it to maybe make
a few degrees difference under full load or so.

Yeah but its now close to my bed time and I wanna stay in the current
day/night rythm... so I guess I am gonna go to bed real soon...

Me fricking tired too... and ofcourse when people get tired they could
start fucking up... and ofcourse I don't wanna fuck up right now and
do something stupid... like drop my PC on the ground or anything like
that... or fuck up some bios setting :)

So I am not going to touch anything anymore and wait till the
morning ! ;)

Yes so slight delay but that's ok :)

Medium sigh there... me kinda glad and happy it's gonna come back
alive SOON :):):) REAL SOON LOL.

And then I will be up your people asses again LOL NO JUST KIDDING...

On the contrary then the number of postings will probably go down
again... so enjoy it while it lasts ! =D

(Also me looking forward to finally enjoying full-motion youtube
video's again ;) :) )

Here is another wacky theory, it goes like this and I don't really
believe it but who knows:

The weight of the CPU Cooler (Scythe Zipang) bends the motherboard
over time and creates micro-fractures in the motherboard's electronics/
lanes causing malfunction.

(My motherboards never show any bending so I don't believe it ! The
motherboard is held up by 9 screws !)

Ok,

I am now back in the saddle and the first thing I wanna write is:

"It's good to be back !" =D

For a couple of days I felt more alive then ever before... I don't like
it... :) Just kidding :)

Now I can turn into a mindless zombie again which is just the way I like it
;) :) NOT :)

But I have a little choice such is my way/life ;) ;P* ;)

Anyway... I am already kinda impressed with the new cpu cooler orientation.

The CPU is at 31 degrees celcius.

The motherboard is at 35 degrees celcius.

However I just started the sytem... it's been up for a few minutes... no
real heavy loads so far.

Usually temperatures rise up to 45 degrees for cpu and motherboard... and it
does so pretty quickly...

So that it is now 10 degrees cooler is a bit weird...

I am also a little bit worried about the fact that the cpu is now 5 degrees
cooler than the motherboard... could
that be a good or a bad sign ? me don't know but time will tell.

Also I changed absolutely no settings in the bios because I am a bit scared
that saving might damage something in the bios chip ;)

So for now I am gonna let it be everything seemed fine anyway.

Though some overclocking things like peg link and north bridge where on
auto... I hope that don't cause any trouble.

Also AMD cool & quiet is enabled...

However I am running power monitor and current settings are desktop/office
so no actually power saving is going on...

So it's simply running at "full speed" of 2.0 GHZ per core.

As I write this the temperatures remain stable at 31 degrees celcius for cpu
and 34 degrees celcius motherboard.

Hmm apperently I have a little problem.. the system or windows does not
detect my second harddrive...

I placed it on sata 4... maybe I should place it on sata 2 instead... but I
thought sata 4 was possible to... Hmm..

I have seen this problem before... I wanted to test if the civilization 3
conquest + error messages in windows still produces
weird sound or if it's now gone... this test will have to wait.

Soundblaster is working though.

Today I went to a local crappy electronics store to investigate "surge
protectors". Cheapest one was 19 euro's... most expensive one was 80 euro's.

The whole shop was pretty expensive anyway... and most stuff look like old
crap/junk and the surge protectors looked like junk as well...

I googled "surge protectors" and read up on it... and none of the technical
terms where on the package...

The websites also explained that surge protectors could be a bad thing
because they can catch fire and it regularly happens.

They could also suddenly stop working though the one at the store claimed to
have a lamp that would go on but website also explains that might not really
work.

The prospect of my pc suddenly shutting down during the midst of coding
seems horrible I don't like that... neither does catching a fire.

There was also a smoke-detector... it was optical ? WTF ?! Screw that... it
also had a 9 volt battery... probably a square one... I have a couple of
those but those not rechargeble so I don't like it... I would first have to
read up on smoke detectors as well..

The lamps were also twice as pricey as in the supermarket...

So I decided to buy nothing at the electronics store and return home.

However the websites also say that there should be a ground.

The wall sockets in my appartment do not have the third ground wire... this
is now worrieing me... and I will definetly contact the appartment-boss to
try and get them to replace those for me for free with proper ones... I am
not sure if I am suppose to pay that.. or them... but it's worth a shot...

I also put my face against the case of computer and I can feel a slight
electrical charge... this could be the "case was opened detector" or so...
but it's probably leakage... but that also worries me a bit...

I want everything grounded properly ?! Maybe that would get rid of the
"popping on the speakers when I turn on the lights ?!?".

So far my first verdict is that the horizontal orientation is better.. at
least for idle but maybe this is premature ;) :)

Ok, first things first... I need to fix my D drive to come back online.. so
I can test civilization 3 conquest.

Also my table is a bit sticky which is kinda weird...

I think it's probably a little bit of cpu paste material that got onto
there... just micro-thin or so ;) :)

Very annoying gotta clean that up or so.. ;)

I don't even see it in this ill lit light but I can feel it ?!

Well that's about it for now...

Be,
reading you folks,
Bye,
Skybuck.

Ok,

Another little message two things:

1. First of all I forgot to connect the soundblaster breakout box... so I
miss my volume knob... but I will connect it after this message.

2. I also turned my keyboard up side down and lot's of white stuff came out
of it LOL. (Did it because I saw a little nail in there ! ;))

You should try it yourself ! JUMMY ! =D

Temperatures remain stable at 31 degrees cpu and 35 degrees motherboard.
Pretty amazing.

Ok now I go shutdown my computer so I can reattach the second harddrive sata
cable..

But ofcourse first I google myself to find how I fixed it before... or my
message archive ;) :)

And then it's time to put some serious loads on this baby ! yeah =D

Bye,

Ok,

Everything working again except the surround sound receiver ofcourse that
one still dead... probably ;) :)

The bios version is 1303 as well.

It detects the usb storage device.. previous one did probably as well.

The civilization 3 conquest + free cell error message bad sound is still
present...

Kinda strange but ok.

I haven't tested 4 GB yet... maxmem is set to 2 GB and I am happy with that
for now.

I put system on modest load:

1. Civilization 3 conquest intro screen on a core.

2. Left 4 Dead on another core.

First for civilization cpu temperature immediatly shot up to 36 degrees.

Then when both were running cpu temperature shot up to 40 to 41 degrees.

This was just a few minutes playing though.

Motherboard temperature remained at 36 degrees which could be a good sign
but it's still too early to tell.

Maybe tomorrow or the coming days I do some heavy company of heroe's testing
=D

And then after that I will post my findings and that after that I will
probably put power savings on to reduce the heat some more when idle ;)

Cpu temperature is now at 33/34 degrees and motherboard at 35/36 degrees.

I am curious what will happen in the future especially since the cpu
heatpipes are now close to the memory chips... at least the first one or
so...

So far so good, fingers crossed... let's see how long this "4th build lasts
;)"

Later I will also post some pictures I took and make a nice fire site for
the fucking dead fly =D

But right now I am tired !

It's late and still didn't have that terrific sleep and also did do some
stuff today.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo now I go enjoy my Dream PC again a little
bit and then to bed !

Nighty night folks :):):)

Bye,
Skybuck ;)

Yeah I forgot about changing the clock a bit... kinda amazing how the
motherboard figured out the correct time...

I guess it was simply the battery in it that was running all this time...

Also the one hour difference is probably explained by not doing the
winter/summer thing.

The remaining 10 minutes is probably drift/inaccuracy or so... funny :)

This was probably over a 6 month period.

Anyway here is one more temperature report:

I have now put "power saving on" at "minimal power saving". (Which is the
best setting)

There is a slight breeze coming from out side.

Room temperature is according to cheap thermometer or whatever it's called:

21.5 degrees... however don't bet on it... it's almost seems to be stuck on
that for some days... it should actually be longer now because of the
breeze... except if outside is 21.5 degrees as well... or maybe the breeze
not strong enough... anyway that's kinda weird.

This is a good reason for me to buy a new temperature meter to be absolutely
sure about the temperature in my room it could be quite important to know
especially with the coming summer ;)

Anyway motherboard temperature readings are (for cpu 1.1 volt and 1.0 ghz
per core at idle:)

27/28 degrees celcius for cpu. (amd x2 3800+ dual core)

33/34 degrees celcius for motherboard. (asus a8n32-sli)

37/38 degrees celcius for graphics card. (nvidia 7900 gtx)

Temperatures could probably even go lower... but at this point me not gonna
wait for it... this is already pretty good I think.

Also this is with fans on all low.

One of my temperature reports mentioned fans were on medium, room
temperature was 5 degrees hotter, but cpu was like 41 degrees... at least 14
degrees warmer...
minus 5 degrees that would leave a difference of 9 degrees and that was with
medium fan speed... hmm.

It could be that the belgiums/review site was correct and the horizontal
orientation makes it run 9 degrees cooler ?!?

At least that's more or less what I am seeing right now under these
conditions. Sounds to good to be true so me very skeptical :)

I will keep close eye on temperature the coming days that's the best I can
do... and ofcourse get a better temperature meter.

It will be most interesting if room temperature again would be 25.5 degrees
like that report...

I searched my message archive and found an even better temperature report to
compare against:

Hmm most interesting...

at 29-7-2008 I did third build.

at 13-8-2008 I did a detailed temperature report.

Temperatures from "third build":

*** old temperatures ***
Temperatures: CPU: 36 to 37 degrees celcius.
Motherboard: 38 to 39 degrees celcius.
Ambient: 21.5 degrees celcius.
*************************

The ambient is the room temperature which would now be exactly the same ?!

The difference for the cpu is therefore pretty huge: 37 - 27 = 10 degrees
difference max... this is with power saving on though and a breeze.

With power saving off cpu would probably be 31 to 33 degrees... so that's
still at least 2 to 3 degrees difference.

Motherboard is also a bit cooler.

So for now it seems "horizontal orientation for scythe zipang cpu cooler is
better for antec 1200 case".

The pins should be pointing towards the exit case fans at the back, this
will make sure the cpu fan cooler blows a bit of hot air towards the
upper/top fan as well.

Bye,
Skybuck.

*** BEGIN OF IDLE REPORT ***

Ok,

I am gonna do one more detailed voltage/temperature report to the best of my
abilities now that the balkony door has been closed for a couple of minutes
and I did do a little bit of websurfing.

The situation is as follows:

1. CPU Heatsinks/fins clear of dust.

2. GPU Heatsinks/fins clear of dust.

3. Case filters clear of dust.

4. Case cables nice tucked back as usual.

5. Case fans all on low.

6. AMD Cool & Quiet enabled.

7. Power setting: "Minimal power saving"

8. CPU Cores at 1.100 volts and 1000 mhz. (idling)

9. "Asus probe" and "Nvidia monitor" running and ofcourse "outlook express".

10. 4x1 GB ram installed.

11. One graphics cards installed (top slot): 7900 GTX 512 MB (idling)

12. Soundblaster X-FI installed (bottom slot) (idling)

13. Two harddisks (idling)

14. Complete system idling

15. Room temperature: 21.5 degrees celcius (but I have doubt about this
reading but ok)

16. One window open in the far back doesn't play much of a role, no more
real breeze, maybe "micro-breeze" or so.

Asus probe reports:

Vcore: 1.15v
+3.3 : 3.26v
+5 : 4.87v
+12 : 11.84v
CPU : 29 degrees celcius
MB : 34 degrees celcius
CPU : 958 RPM
Chassis: 0 RPM
Power: 753 RPM (Seasonic S12)

NVIDIA monitor reports:

GPU: 38 degrees celcius.
GPU core (3D): 275.000 MHz
GPU memory: 796.000 MHz

All other readings say: "not reported".

Probably a software issue with nvidia software ? or maybe graphics card
damaged ? Who knows ;)

^ That kinda sux, maybe newer software might fix it... and could report gpu
fan speed or so...

But this will do for now ;)

*** END OF IDLE REPORT ***

In the coming days I will try to do a gaming-load report or so ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

There must be a whole world out there of amateurs who slap together
expensive pimp-PCs based on rumors and fads and bogus products, people
who haven't a clue about how computers actually work.

Sort of like high-end audio.

Yet ha cannot even do it after four other "iterations" of his method of
destroying computers.

I know of pre-teen kids that can assemble working PCs. He likely can
as well. The problem is him keeping his hands off it after it gets built,
AND needing to OBSERVE it IN OPERATION, until one is quite sure that it
is running clean.

He likely jarred the Vid card and cracked the three year old, dried out
heat sink compound, OR he was in there toying with something and got his
GPU fan FOBed.

Ok,

I got a really simple solution for 3 the dust filters...

I let the screws out of the harddisk bays so I can easily move them forward
to easily get the filters out to clean them.

Letting the screws out doesn't cause any vibration or maybe just very very
slightly but acceptable.

So there ya go ! ;)

I also monitoring temperatures...

Temperatures for motherboard close to 38 to 40 degrees max during gaming.

I also turn the fans up a bit higher to cool...

Hopefully this cool/hot cycle doesn't cause any damage ?! ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

With a maturity level like that, this idiot cannot be more than 14
years old, and if the dope did actually make it to an adult numeric age,
I would charge his parents criminally for subjecting society to an adult
aged adolescent minded idiot that never grew up.

If he actually is only 14, his parents need to get on the stick and
teach this dope a few realities in life.

The goddamned cross-posting retard also needs someone to whopp him
upside the head for being a Usenet retard as well, as I am quite sure
that all these groups are about sick of this little immature bastard.
Somebody ought to whopp his old man upside the head too!

Will the multi-nym'd Archie address the issue of his claim of
celibacy? Will Archie take the puzzle challenge? Archie is trying to
be recognized as a family expert, dispensing child raising
recommendations - when his own family consists of himself and his
right hand.

I'd rather see the doctors who delivered that fruitcake be forced to
fix the 'defective' they released on society.

It takes a self-confessed celibate cocksucker to be you Archie.
Explain your claim of celibacy, fuckface.
