nl-alt should be for the dutch speaking people, what ALT has been for the
whole of usenet, all these years. A hierarchy in which newsgroups can
be created spontaneously and without a long bureacracy.
But nl-alt should not copy the uncontrolability and the abundance of abuse
in the ALT hierarchy. Therefore clear rules have been made for nl-alt.
The nl-alt proposal has been heavily influenced by 2 other proposals:
The mod.* proposal and the net.* proposal. A number of guidelines in
the "So You Want To Create An Alt Group" -FAQ have been raised to
rules in the nl-alt proposal.
There will not be an official manager of nl-alt. There will never be an
official list of newsgroups in nl-alt.
But as a service to the users and newsadmins of nl-alt, there will be
an unofficial manager (the nl-alt janitor). This manager should serve
as a source of trustable control messages, cancels and technical advice.
The possibility of a subhierarchy of nl.* has not been chosen for
technical reasons. The nl-admin should be able to send an accurate
list of the groups in the nl.* hierarchy.
Such a list would collide against the philosophy of an alt hierarchy,
in which there should not be an official manager. The nl-admin also
has said they do not want the extra work, managing nl.alt.
Unfortunately, I do not have had the time to translate all relevant

Bij dit soort discussies zijn er meestal niet veel mensen betrokken.
In een gemiddelde RFD zijn er ook maar 10 mensen die meediscussieren.
En ze gaan allemaal echt niet ME-TOO zeggen.
Maar ten eerste bleek uit de hele nl.s.t discussie dat vele mensen
de bureaucratie, eindeloze discussies, en hoge drempels van nl.*
zat waren.
Verder heb ik zo vaak zoiets gehoord als: 'als nl-alt er is, dan
kan die groep daar aangemaakt worden'.
Na mijn eerste voorstel zijn er veel nuttige suggesties gedaan,
waarvan er vele in mijn tweede voorstel verwerkt zijn.
Wat ik niet gehoord heb, zijn langdurige flames, waarin er op mij
en mijn nl-alt voorstel gehakt wordt.
: Is het misschien een idee om toch nog
: even te wachten met je newsgroups tot na de vakantie, of tenminste tot het
: natuurlijke eind van deze newsgroup, en is het wellicht ook een idee om
: ook in alt.config je idee nog eens te lanceren?
Is 1 september niet de datum waarop de volgende maand verstreken
is, slimmerd? Het lijkt me overbodig om nl.a.a-c voort te zetten,
als de discussies blijkbaar toch voorbij zijn.
Verder vraag ik me af wat alt.config ermee te maken heeft?
Ik heb mijn voorstel ook al op news.admin.hierarchies gezet.
