Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to you to see if your Intramural department includes any activities or welcome events during your school's orientation and if so, what events you plan. If you could share some ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Kevin,

Saint Peter’s is a small school so many of the departments work together to make Orientation a success.  During our Orientation (which is 3 days and 2 nights and held in four sessions) there is information fair, and recreation/intramurals/aquatics has a table each week at that event.  Intramurals and Student Activities also co-hosts a session at each Orientation in which we do some fun bonding exercises with the students and tell them about activities on campus that they can get involved with.  On one night of each Orientation, the students come to use the facilities at our rec center for an hour of free play time.

On our Freshman Day, which takes place on the day before classes and is mandatory for all freshmen, there is a large convocation which is followed by something we call “Freshman Funch.”  The “funch” is a cookout lunch and sports fest/info fair that is hosted by intramural sports.  We cook for 500 freshmen, provide a DJ and inflatables including “bouncy boxing” and a baseball throw with radar, run games, and promote our upcoming intramural programs.  We also encourage upperclassmen to attend the event after they move into their dorms that day.  We split the cost of this event with the Dean of Fresmen’s Office.

Let me know if you’d like any more info.

Dave
