Hello all (sorry for cross-posting)!!

It’s time! In advance of Youth Justice Action Month, we are pleased to announce that Senator Whitehouse and Senator Grassley have officially introduced the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Reauthorization Act of 2024!

They dropped the bill this evening before the Senate entered recess. Below are details. We ask that national, state, and local organizations endorse this legislation ASAP by October 1, 2024. National organizations who sign on immediately, by 10 am ET September 26th, may be listed in press releases by the Whitehouse and/or Grassley offices.

The JJDPA Reauthorization Act will give greater flexibility to states for use of Title II grants; ensure the JJDPA's core protections apply to youth housed in adult prisons; phase out the Valid Court Order exception which currently allows states to incarcerate children for status offenses like skipping school or running away when a judge issues a court order; close the non-participating-states loophole so states must comply with the Act's core protections to receive federal funding; provide needed technical fixes; and reauthorize the JJDPA through FY29.
