Government Monitoring of NGOs

Good morning everyone, 

Last night the new email associated with reporting government DEI initiatives at OPM signed up for the HRFK Newsletter. All new adds get flagged for me which is why I was able to catch it. 

HRFK isn't engaged in the DEI space at all so it is unclear how or why they decided to add us.

But I wanted to flag for folks so that you can monitor your own email lists. 

The email it came from was deia...@opm.gov. They signed up under the first name Deia, last name Truth. 

For anyone whose work is explicitly described as "racial justice" or have DEI programs, it may be worth talking with pro bono legal counsel. Perhaps the ACLU or Leadership Conference or Lawyers Committee on Civil Rights can convene a proactive working group on this for organizations that may be at-risk.

I don't know anything about this, but I found this article on FedScoop.com (which I've never heard of) and a column from New Republic (here). Reading the New Republic piece, it seems plausible that someone outside of OPM signed up the OPM.gov email address in order to flood that inbox by signing it up for many newsletters. That might be what we're experiencing here, but there's no way of knowing.
