Student gets Gold Medal by 5th Pillar's RTI

Although this girl student of Karaikudi University was the first ranker and deserved the Gold Medal in the first place, she was overlooked for whatever reason and her name didn't appear in the medal winners list of the University. Her father promptly contacted 5th Pillar's Chennai HQ and our Executive Director Mr. Banu Kumar filed one of his trade mark "tough" RTI petition which has apparently made the University officials to contact the student and parents and awarded the Gold Medal subsequently in the Convocation function. Another success for the citizen, RTI and 5th Pillar-;)

In a RTI sent to Karaikudi University, we have pointed out that a girl of Karaikudi who have secured the first mark in the University, was overlooked and others who have secured lower marks have been honoured .The issue was brought to us by one Mr, Lourdu Raj, an  Ex-service man. on behalf of his daughter, by name, Terena Grazy. .   We have taken up the case with the University , obtained the marks secured by 10 students. WE have sent an appeal to the University pointing out the anomoly. The University has called the student over phone and asked her to collect the gold medal from the College during the Convocation to be held tomorrow.. for the distinction obtained by her in the academic year 2011.  The University has replied me that the marks obtained by the candidates are under examination and the final reply will be sent to me in due course. I have advised the girl to collect the gold medal during the convocation to be held tomorrow. Follow up action for the omission on the part of the University could be taken up later. I feel that this is an instant case of success of an RTI, for a noble cause. Lourduraj has called ,me today and profusely thanked the Organisation. for the efforts taken by us for a good cause.
