These are great suggestions. Did we ever act on this? If not, we should consider at least a letter to the Governor’s Office. CC: Anthony Correia <acor...@gmail.com>Gentlemen a question from the President of Pine Beach Fire Dept, John KubilewiczTony CorreiaGreetings from the Jersey ShoreHas there been any thought on the part of your organization to push the Governor and Legislature to make this year’s one time American Rescue Plan PPE Grant program a permanent item (with an expanded eligibility list of equipment and training)in the State Budget? The amounts awarded might not be large for some departments but for small volunteer companies like ours it was a godsend. With volunteer numbers declining, a program that helps relieve some of the fundraising pressure would be a boon to retention I would think. Career departments, where funding is at a premium as well, I think would welcome the extension of this funding.I would offer a few suggestions to tweak the process, but continuing the grants under the same guidelines would not negate my support of the program,1. Allow “independent” volunteer companies to apply directly, rather than through the borough, which we are allowed to do in the NJ Forest Fire Service, which uses the same SAGE Grant portal as NJDCA. Since we do most of our own funding, this process was a new one for our town financial people, and there were some coordination problems throughout the application submittal period.2. I would think this program should be housed in the NJ Division of Fire Safety, which is supposed to be the clearing house for all things fire in State Government.
3. Expand the scope of the eligible items in the grant program beyond just PPE. Communications, extrication equipment, training costs and other big ticket items should be considered as well.I would ask that as a statewide organization you consider this course of action and our the full weight of your political influence behind it.Thank you for your consideration.John Kubilewicz, President,Pine Beach Volunteer Fire CompanyOcean County, NJ--Thanks, Tony Correia
