The NJ Fire & EMS Institute has partnered with the Division of Fire Safety set up a free 1/2-day training class at Middlesex College on Monday April 28th. Attached is the flyer to share.

The focus will be on E-Scooter, E-Bike & Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Hazards, Investigations, Data Analysis, Fire Code & Legislation presented by John Orlando, FDNY Supervising Fire Marshal (retired).

This class is designed for all Fire Departments, Fire Prevention Bureaus and Fire Investigation Units that are now faced with the fire hazards of E-Scooters, E-Bikes and Lithium-Ion Batteries throughout the state. Unregulated E-Scooters, E-Bikes and Lithium-Ion Batteries have entered New Jersey and pose a serious fire risk to the public and first responders. In addition to this, fully regulated units that are used properly may also pose a serious risk if they are damaged or overcharged.

In addition to what John Orlando will be covering, we will be showing what unauthorized UL Labels and fraudulent UL Test Reports look like and have displays of E-Scooters and E-Bikes and the reports that have been found during fire code enforcement actions. Representatives from UL will be in attendance to present as well.

Model ordinances that your town can adopt to protect your municipality for the sale of these devices will also be shared.

Class will be from 0900-1300 with check-in starting at 0800 that will be held at the Middlesex College Performing Arts Center Theater 2600 Woodbridge Avenue Edison, NJ 08818.

The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety has approved .25 Technical CEU’s for Fire Code Enforcement (Inspector/Official), Fire Instructor and Fire Investigator.
