I'm not available every other Tuesday. If we get a smart room, you will be
limited to access with a faculty present.

I also suspect that getting any room on a Tuesday/Thursday will be hard. Most
faculty like the T/Th schedule because they like not having to be on campus
Monday and/or Friday.

From what I've learned so far:
- Mon / Thu seems not work at all
- Tue is bad for getting a room
- Wed has no preference
- Friday has two "+"

So Friday seems to be a good choose for us?

I would like to add another "+" for Friday. If I am able to attend (I hope!), this would be the most likely day.

I'll be totally out of luck if it's Friday. It might seem silly, but I'll throw it out there....the group isn't massive, certainly not classroom sized. Perhaps all we need is medium sized LDC tv and a vga cable, and just set things up in the library on days when a classroom isn't available. I wouldn't even be opposed to huddling around a laptop. It's a little ghetto, but on the days I showed up, the group was 4-5 people max.

It seemed like Tues or Thursday was the best fit schedule-wise for most, so maybe we could bend on the usual presentation perks to accommodate that?

Just my .02

On the other hand, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are also potentially doable for me. Thursday is not free.

However, please make no particular considerations for me, as my schedule is not fully formed and I may or may not be able to attend meetings regularly.

It would probably be best if everyone else decided a day and I tried to fit it in.

Thanks, Malyssa

I agree with Mike.  On weeks that we are unable to use a smart
classroom we could move to a different spot (or become biweekly).  The
library has a room with a nice TV we could use. When I am available we
could use the staff lounge and it's TV.  Meeting at pizza hut that one
time months ago was pretty nice.

Yes, we could certainly do that.

I don't know much about rooms in the library, do we need to apply in advance or just walk in?

I also like that meeting at pizza hut. In fact, the original plan two years ago was to find a cafe for meeting. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a cafe nearby, with acceptable price. If any of you know some place like that, please let me know.

Given that, is Tuesday good for everyone?

I'll investigate the library Tuesday morning (not to say that Tuesdays won't be overthrown as the meeting time by then--that's just when I'll be at the library next),  and figure out the room situation. I've never utilized or reserved one yet. That said, for those who haven't been to the library, there is certainly plenty of space and tables, and I don't think an informal meeting will cause any concern. Worst case scenario, I might even be able to just load up a small TV to set up the library on Tuesdays. If set up at the end of one of the tables with the presenter off to the side with a laptop, I think it could be surprisingly adequate. I even have 25 ft VGA cable (not that we'll need that kind of length....lol).

Again though, I'll check for sure on Tuesday morning to see if it's manageable. A cafe, pizza hut, or similar laptop-huddling situation doesn't bother me either.

I work at the library and that room I mentioned is available on a
first come first serve basis. I've had study groups in it before. It
appears that it can be reserved regularly as well and I will inquire
about that process when I am working there tonight.

I checked with the people who handle room reservations at the library
and it appears that only classes can reserve library rooms. Anyone can
still use them when they're not in use.

I propose that we try Tuesdays on weeks when we can use the smart
classroom and then Fridays at the library/cafe/pizzahut otherwise.
This would accommodate a range of people and I think it wouldn't be
too complicated to coordinate.

That sounds like a fair solution. So, if it works, does that make next
week a Tues or a Friday? If things get started that early.

So, I can see if we can get a Smart classroom in PyschMath for the following
Tuesdays.

24 Jan, 7 Feb, 21 Feb, 6 Mar, 20 Mar, 3 Apr, 17 Apr

CSCI normally doesn't schedule classes during dinner time (5-6:30), so we
may get lucky.

I suspect that Friday meetings will probably be lean, but you can still
give it a try, especially if you go to a cafe or pizza place.

So should we meet at the library this afternoon? Or should we shoot for this Friday?

If we can't use the smart classroom today, then sure-- I'll hang out
in the front lobby at 5 in the library.

We have PM 203 reserved for 5-6:30 pm on Tuesdays.

So, at this point, we can meet on Feb. 7 there.

You can still meet next week at any alternative location/time you desire.

I'll be available tonight at 5 if anyone wants to meet at the
library. We could continue the exploration of an Icecast server with
unicode or whatever else peaks our interest.

Yes, I'll also be there. We can still meet at the lobby.

See you at 5.
