Dear all,

As it is already towards the end of this semester, do you want to keep our weekly meetings (for maybe 1 or 2 weeks)?
If most of you felt busy working on other things, we can stop here and resume regular meetings next semester.

What do you think? Another meeting?

OK, since nobody replied, I'll just assume all of you are so busy that you cannot find any time to reply.

So, no more meetings this semester.

See you next semester.
Best,

Hi Chi,

I am not able to make the commute to Dekalb this semester. That's why I don't reply to the meeting announcements. When things change for me, I'd enjoy making the meetings again.

Regards,
~Lorincz

I've only been able to make it when I've been able to briefly escape
from work this semester.

I suggest we use a group scheduling tool such as http://whenisgood.net/
to determine when the meetings could be in the future. I have a
population of people in my Unix course who are interested, but Mondays
at that time don't seem to work out for them either.

Lately I've been utilizing library room 492 which has a big TV with
VGA and sound hookups available for student use; also could use the
staff lounge in the library in the evening since I work there. We
could have an alternative meeting on a different day of the week
without needing to secure a room.

It looks great. I have to try it some time before next semester but yes, we could make use of it (or any other tools) to plan our meeting schedule for next semester.

The schedule of each semester is decided at the beginning of the semester. So let them join the group (I can add them in the group mailing list, but I need their E-mail addresses) so that next semester they can contribute to deciding the schedule that works for them as well.

I'm not sure we want to meet in the library, but (as you may already know) Ross has proposed to Dr. Karonis about creating a lounge on the 2nd floor of our building. If this is done before next semester, and hopefully it will be, we could just use that room as our meeting location.

We could have an alternative meeting on a different day of the week
without needing to secure a room.

Sure. We decide to meet once a week mainly because we could not come up with enough topics. If anyone have some ideas and you want to have more meetings, just E-mail the group and we can go from there (decide date + time + location + etc.).

Thanks for bring those suggestions, Vincent. And I hope more people can join the discussion.
Best,

Sorry for my unexcused leap of absence. Prior reasons why I couldn't make it was simply the fact that I was falling behind on classes.

So far the when is good utility seems like a good option, it probably would allow for a more dynamic meeting setup, like perhaps Thursday wouldn't be good, one week, but it would be the next.

As soon as I can figure out what's happening next semester, I would be more than happy to collaborate proper times to discover when would be fine for me to show up. Hopefully I could bring some quick cheat sheets for emacs and vi by then, like I promised, but failed to deliver.

Keep in mind, you shouldn't just use any open classroom. And the smart
classrooms are not open.

We need to reserve use of the rooms with the University.

If you want to work out a schedule where we meet the 1st (and 3rd?) Monday of
the month in PsychMath in a smart classroom and then elsewhere on a different
day of the week on different weeks, we can do this but we need to work it
out ahead of time and we need to offically request the rooms.

Yes, we will decide a (public) location before doing "extra" meetings.

One thing all of us would benefit from: (you may already know, but I'm so excited about it)

Ross Hettel, a senior student in our dept., is proposing to Dr. Karonis about merging the two TA offices on the 2nd floor into one and using the other as an lounge for CS students. Maybe Ross can explain this better than I did.

Once that is setup (hopefully before next semester starts), we can just meet there anytime we want, without worrying about reserving a room! We can also (maybe) attract more people to join us.

Hope to see the lounge setup soon.
