Hey guys,
Putting April Fool's Day aside, this is actually a timely thread.
*DRUM ROLL*
I've been in talks with Microsoft about moving Nitrogen to F#.
They described some strategic factors around this interest:
- Their development tools are big moneymakers.
- They see the market shifting toward functional languages.
- If they don't shift too, then Visual Studio revenue goes away.
- Their best bet for riding this wave is F#.
- They realize that putting F# on the web is the only way to do this.
Apparently, they have seen the buzz around Erlang and Nitrogen, and
have decided that an F# implementation of Nitrogen best aligns with
their goals.
I know this is going to cause some concern here. I'm happy to talk
about it, but for legal reasons I can't share all of the details.
The Erlang version of Nitrogen will still be open source, and I will
still be updating it, though the updates may slow down for the next
few months.
Best,
Rusty
