local / hosted switch in web.xml

has anybody a good idea how to automatically switch local / hosted in
war/WEB-INF/web.xml
when uploading to appengine ?
(I consider my approach a very dirty hack, with a wrapper shellscript
renaming my two versions of web.xml when uploading)

Hmm I haven't tackled this yet...
At some point I will implement a more sophisticated 'upload script',
that will synthesize, compress and generally optimize the files to be
send to App Engine.
I would love to hear ideas on such an upload process.
