We, the Team Incident, on behalf of the student body of NITK, would like to extend to you our greetings; and a sincere welcome to our cultural festival for the year 2014-15, INCIDENT’15, from March 4th-8th at campus. Over the years, each team has dedicated itself to do the best at organizing this extravaganza, and to do better than their predecessors and raise the standards of the event; and we too look forward to do the same.
An implicit part of our fest is the involvement of alumni in its organization and participation, and we request your assistance in this regard. As you may know from your experience at NITK, organizing a fest requires covering a lot of costs, and this is where we are requesting your help. In return, we can provide active publicity for the interests you represent. Even if this invitation arrives at a later date than one may come to expect, we assure you of our sincerity with regards to our query and your expectations. Perhaps, you can consider this as an opportunity to generate some nostalgia and goodwill towards a place where you spent a good portion of your youth.
That being said, we have a few highlights for Incident’15 that we plan to implement this year:
1) Promoting teams and artists of different cultures and traditions:
INCIDENT is known for providing a platform to aspiring youngsters who seek stepping stones for success in their career. However, the team also feels a need to promote the specialties of the coastal region.
In previous editions, local sand sculptors were invited to display their talents on the beach. Team INCIDENT 2015 intends to invite the Mangalore kite flying team, which is known for its originality and creativity. Team INCIDENT also wishes to promote coastal delicacies in one of its events. With this, the team hopes to contribute towards the promotion of tourism in the coastal city.
A collective event called ‘Glimpses of the World’ was also introduced in INCIDENT’14, where different artists from across the world come to the fest to display the local culture of their countries. We intend to do this on a grander scale this year.
2) I-Care: The Social Initiative
It started off in the 2012 edition as an initiative to involve the underprivileged kids in the locality during INCIDENT. These kids were invited to attend the fest where special programs and competitions were held for them.
In the 2014 edition, Project Jagriti, a collaboration with NITK IEEE, was given a platform for exposure by/during INCIDENT. Project Jagriti is an attempt to use crowdsourcing for social welfare efforts, by developing a software platform that facilitates quick reporting of issues. Their current focus is reporting and tracking child abuse cases.
For Incident’15, the team is developing another app this year, which will serve as a distress call for women under attack. An actuation on the phone will automatically send the location and dial the police as well as record the phone call so that immediate action will be taken up.
3) Corporate Dealings:
Every INCIDENT has a separate team which is trained to deal with corporates. They provide specialized deals and packages to every sponsor, aiming for better PR. The team this year has come up with a solution to provide more visibility to the sponsors; a ‘moving truck’ that attracts crowds with different stalls and small games arranged on it. This truck will go around the campus, stopping at event locations where crowds have to be gathered, thus creating a win-win situation for both the organizers and the sponsors.
If you are willing to help us in this endeavor, we assure you that we will take care of all the formalities and the trivialities involved. We would also like to stress that your assistance need not be immediate, and any contributions that come in even after the actual dates of the fest would still be greatly appreciated and we would still honour the agreement to provide publicity. We sincerely hope you will attend our fest and participate and enjoy to your maximum at campus. This can be a good opportunity for you to catch up with your other peers as a reunion of sorts. It is our hope that the current and past students of NITK can come together to make this edition of Incident a massive success.
With thanks and regards,
