Hi All,

Compliments to all the applicants looking forward for PGDIE at NITIE, Mumbai.

Well I am sharing my experience of GD and PI.

My GD group topic was “SEZ are good for economy on cost of environment”. It was an open ended GD topic where you need to put your own pros and cons of having SEZ keeping their impact on environment in view.

Our GD was good as we could bring more relevant points. My suggestion to all of you:

1.      Don’t jump to any conclusion beforehand. You can bring both the aspects positive (supporting the topic) and negative (opposing topic) into discussion.
2.      No rule says the person who starts first and finishes last will win the battle, so all of you have equal chance even if you haven’t gave start or finish to GD.
3.      Content of your talk does matter a lot.
4.      Your behaviour in group is certainly noticed. Allow other to also speak if you did finish your points.
5.      You can enter as many times as you want but do enter with relevant point, also entry should be smooth (no fish market).
6.      Always look at and listen to your group members not towards GD panel except at start and finish or if GD panel interrupts.
7.      Last point is even if you don’t have any idea about topic keep yourself cool, try to grab from the on-going discussion, figure out and speak.

Regarding PI

PI was too cool J as when you enter confidently you have won half the battle. In PI there is no perfect answer to any question you should able to convince the Panel that you are suitable for PGDIE.

I have faced questions about my “work exp”, how relevant work exp to the course, why you want to leave job, what are the jobs you are handling, what do you know about IE about your college project if they find it attractive.
Rest is Panel basically like to know about you so do tell them…. J

That’s all for now,

Need any help do ask in the same post… or you can give me a call, do visit http://nitie.in for getting contact details.

All the best

With Regards,

Hey folks,
I am Vishal Mangaonkar from PGDIE-39.
I am an Electrical Engineer and have 2 years of experience from Larsen
and Toubro.Ltd.

First thing I did before starting preparation for NITIE was contacting
my seniors. As per their advice and with my own stuff I did following
things:

GD preparation:
1) Rules to be folllowed in GD?
2) Different situations in GD, like if fish market then how to handle
the situation
3) how to maintain the composure
4) reading newspapers
5) GD topics online (type recent issues, GD topics etc. in google)
6) Difference between summarize and Conclude?

Actual GD:
I talked with my team members (in 2-3 mins before going inside the gd
room) about how we can avoid creating a fish market in the gd so that
we can maximize the chances of getting selected, but you know some
people who always try to show how smarter they are and get set backs.
same thing happened in my gd, one of our team members started shouting
and contradicting me when i started the discussion. I just wanted to
slap him on the face, but GD RULES....Keep yourself calm and maintain
ur composure....We carried forward with his nonsense stuff...Our GD
topic was about expenditure on military ....very general
topic....somehow i tackled with that person and tried to give chance
to other speakers...i was playing the role of leader as well as
moderator in between...

Finally time for concluding the gd....expectedly the person jumped on
to the conclusion while panel was asking about the summarization....i
got the chance and as soon as he finished up with his talk I jumped in
and asked panel straight a way about what exactly was i supposed to
do, summarize or conclude,,,,Panel responded with a smile and said we
told u to summarize....( Plus point)

PI:
I prepared some questions like: (Dont ever be emotional while
answering these quetions. panel is searching for future Managers and I
hope u knw what managers are suppeosed to do)
1) Describe yourself ( Briefly, do mention about your current
responsibilties in the company, keep it very brief and for maximum of
2-3 minutes)
2) About NITIE?
3) Why NIITIE?
4) Final Year project?
5) About my company i.e.L&T?
6) Work culture and my project?
7) My habits, Negatives (dnt mention more than 1 negative) and hw u r
overcoming or converting this negative into positive?
8) Questions about the things I had mentioned in the application form

Actual PI:
Panel of 8 people (dnt worry they just wanna judge ur confidence)
1) Describe urself?
2) Last year project?
3) Applications?
4) why didnt u patented this idea? (I had mentioned about my patent in
L&T, so they wanted to knw about whether I knew abt hw to file a
patent and all....
I wanted to divert my panel's attention towards L&T so I started
taking reference of L&T in between and i succeded.
5) What are your current responsiblities?
6) What is a life cycle of a project?

All panelist were asking questions simultaneously, but I kept myself
calm and said, Sir, i would like to answer your questions one by one..
(I won the part of battle) and then i explained something on Black
board with a due permission of all panelists...( again it boosted my
confidence)

These are just the tricks which I am suggesting you to prepare on
yourself.

Good luck.:)

Dear Aspirants,

Let me introduce myself before I share my GD/PI exp. I am Bhushan Thakriya. I have done my B.E. in I.T. I have 45 months of workex in Software industry. I have worked for MNCs like Cisco, Accenture and Subex.

I have faced NITIE GD/PI twice once as a fresher yr 2005 (got in waiting list didn't make it in final list) and once last yr 2009 as an Exp candidate, successful :) and now a proud PGDIEan.
I will share my both experiences.

I had good Comm Skills during engineering and with work ex it got matured. Good Comm skills is the key for cracking PGDIE. Be clear y u want to do PGDIE?  Its uniqueness is one of the factors y ppl want to do PGDIE.

GD topics are simple current topics and sometimes General ... no HI-FI topics are given

I used following tips for cracking GD. This may help u:

- Basic rules of GD apply:
                  - No one WINS a GD .. cos its GD and not a DEBATE.. it is a tool to find whether u can Participate in GROUP or not . How u behave in a group. How good are ur Communication Skills.
                  - No one in GD can speak more thn 2-3 mins out of a GD of 10 mins. And if someone is, thn may have already made a negative impression. Jus make sure u contribute to GD at regular intervals.
                  - Initating the GD helps but only if u r able to explain the topic clearly otherwise makes a very Bad impression. Don't initiate if you are less confident, and don't fight with members to initiate if topic is very simple. Behave like Proffesionals.
                  - Contibute new valid points .. show that u understood the topic .. Give Directions to GD, it shows ur leadership skills and involvement.
                  - Actively listen and note points from other members, it shows u r Attentive and have respect for others opinion. very helpful if u dont know about the topic much :) . But should be used always. After all GD is about taking others opinion. It shows ur active participation
                  - Conclude/Summarize the GD if given a chance. Conclusion and Summary are different.

As Fresher (2005):

GD: Topic : VAT (hot fav topic in 2005), at present can be GST or Inflation

I was prepared with the topic so were others :) . 3 people wanted to start the GD, I stopped my self from being in tht initial fight. 3 of the initial shooters fired all of thr mugged up points in 1-2-3 mins and were out of points, dint had much for rest the GD. Then slow players like me and other smart ppl pitched in with thr points which were still uncovered. this chipping in with new points and discussing of points happened over for 5 mins. I pitched in with some good points and showed various Advantage and Disadvanges of VAT. I took a diplomatic stand and didn't showed tht I am totally in favour or totally against. Many of us did the same. Now all of us have spoken, ppl started repeating the points or started cutting each others point. Good fight happened for 2 mins. Finally Bell ringed and one member from the panel asked a girl to conclude the GD. After her conclusion he asked one more person to conclude. Both conclusions were decent. GD was over :) .

 PI:
Waited long from 12PM to 6PM in the evening. Finally I was called, it was the last day of GD/PIs and show was abt to get over in 2 hrs. I was in front of a panel of 6 expert faculty members. Firing starts.

- Tell me abt yourself : already prepared it with my frds so Confidently told abt myself , my family , hobbies, sports and Oncampus Job Offer of Accenture
- One panelist asked: Final yr project what is it exactly. answered it wel as per the businees perspective , scope obejective , future benefits etc.
- One lady panelist asked which subjects u liked the most in Engg: Answered DBMS, OS , DS :)
- All was gng technical but suddenly one panelist from other end asks who is ur role model:
I said my Mom.. thy asked Y? i justified... now a twist .. tell role model other thn ur family members or frds ...
I said .. no one as such .. i dont follow anyone .. i admire a lot of ppl ...  thy asked whom u admire and like . i said few names like Narayan Murthy etc etc ... thy asked Y? i tried to say but couldnt convienced thm much.
- Now again a twist y PGDIE and Y not JOB ?
I prepared this wel ... so answered confidently explained the value of PG in my life. How it will help acheive my long term objective.
- Whr u see urself after 5 yrs ? answered .. showed i have a plan both proffesional and pesonal (family) respected and admired  at work and responsible and caring for family .. it impressed the panelist sitting in center the most...
-  What is industrial engg .. how it will help u achieve ur career goals...
Again answered wel .....
- All panelist were happy with the answer thy asked each other tht if any other questions for me .. and thn decided to let me free. Center Panelist said Best of Luck .. I said thx ... Result out waitlist :( dint cleared waiting.

Year 2009:

I prepared wel this yr didnt wanted to take any chances:

GD (2009) -  Topic : "Is forgiveness attribute of strong"
- Simple general topic : Simple GD rules worked here as wel.
- Did participated in GD 4-5 times with valid points and also concluded GD.

PI :
- tell me abt urself : prepared wel : told abt workex and companies I have worked with ...
- Y 3 companies in 4 yrs : justified my reasons of switching compnaies. Dont show it was for money.. show it was for learning and u learned a lot from all companies :) ..
- tell abt ur present project : gave a good description abt project and product
- Y PGDIE after such a good exp in IT continue with Cisco y u want to be here : I said i want to be a CEO or a VP or hold a high position in an Organization. and PGDIE will help me achieve it.
-  how NITIE will it help u being a CEO: I elaborated my point.
- One panelist tried to stress me by saying PGDIE is not MBA so you cant be a CEO ..
I tried to tell him tht alumini from PGDIE are CEOs .. he pretended he is not convinced .. but all other panelist were .. so it was a good sign :) ..

Finally I made it :) ...

Confidence is the key. Don't Bluff be clear in ur thoughts..

All the Best!!!
