Viewers of Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village are wondering how many episodes are in the series and when it ends. Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village is the third season of the Demon Slayer anime series. The story revolves around Tanjiro Kamado, who aspires to be a Demon Slayer after his family is murdered and his sister Nezuko is changed into a demon.
The episode really flew by. But there was enough time for Genya to learn to trust others just a little bit. Well Tanjirou at least. And honestly, at this point, the boy is just a puppy stereotype. He even sniffs out demons like a puppy would!
Unfortunately for the pair, they don't get much time to dig into its origins as Upper Rank demons Hantengu and Gyokko invade the village. It's revealed that Hantengu, especially, is extremely hard to kill: every time he is beheaded, his body splits in two and forms 'new' personas. Tanjiro is picked up by a swooping Hantengu, while Kotestu and Mist Hashira Muichiro have to deal with Gyokko's assault.
All is not lost, however, in the sixth episode as Genya manages to regain much of his humanity in order to chase down a fifth (tiny) demon and help slay Hantengu. He is attacked from behind by the anger demon Sekido, which makes him reminisce about how a demon (later revealed to be his mother) attacked and killed five of his brothers. Tanjiro eventually saves Genya, though he is still badly wounded by a spear attack from Sekido. Thanks to Genya holding the anger demon off, Tanjiro then sees an opportunity to take down Hantengu once and for all.
It's a chance he doesn't quite take, however. In the seventh episode, it is revealed that Hantengu's anger demon has consumed the remaining emotions. Muichiro, meanwhile, eventually breaks free of his aquatic vase prison with the help of Kotetsu.
The eighth episode sees Muichiro reminisce about his family. Much like Genya, his past is punctuated by fateful encounters with demons, including the one that murdered his twin brother. After the flashback, Tanjiro-style marks appear on the Mist Hashira's face, which enhances his abilities.
Elsewhere in the battle, Tanjiro is nearly killed by Hantengu's demons but is saved at the last moment by Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, who joins the fray. The penultimate episode is centered on Mitsuri, with not only her past (where she tried to conform to societal expectations) being covered, but also her supremely powerful fighting prowess. With Mitsuri by their side, Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya turn the tide and finally corner an escaping Hantengu.
The third episode of the Swordsmith Village arc of Demon Slayer is ranked last. This episode mostly just suffers from where it comes in the arc; the fight for the village's fate only begins at the tail end. It also spends a lot of time with Genya and Muichiro, both of whom are rather hostile towards Tanjiro's attempts to befriend them. Since Genya has had very little screen time, and Muichiro is new for season 3, it just ends up coming across as two strangers being rude to the protagonist.
The Swordsmith Village arc's first episode started the season off at a very calm point, with Tanjiro still recovering from his battle in the Entertainment District arc. The need to actually recover from injuries is one of the things that sets Demon Slayer apart from some other shonen series, but that doesn't mean it makes a good season premiere. While the episode does start to tease some new plot points, very little of consequence actually happens in this episode. The most exciting moment is getting to see the Upper Rank One demon, Kokushibo, for the first time, which is what keeps it from being ranked last.
The second episode of the Swordsmith Village arc is similarly lacking in action, although it does get a bit of swordplay with the practice dummy. The practice dummy itself is actually fairly impressive, a kind of mechanical puppet with six arms that was designed to emulate the first demon slayer's incredible fighting style. Kotetsu, a young boy from the village, gets his introduction here, and it was definitely important to set him and his relationships with Tanjiro and Muichiro up early, given his role in the larger plot.
This is the tenth episode of the Swordsmith Village arc, well into the battle for the fate of the village. As the title suggests, it focuses heavily on the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and her backstory. Unfortunately, Mitsuri has one of the worst backstories in the series; while other characters had traumatic encounters with demons that drove them to become demon slayers, Mitsuri simply fell into the job because of her physical strength, a trait which she was terrified would make her unmarriageable. Reducing Mitsuri to a woman seeking a man really impacts her character, and not in a good way. At least it has some nice fight scenes.
The eighth episode of the Swordsmith Village arc delves deeply into Muichiro's backstory, as he begins to regain his memories. Muichiro Tokito's past is a tragic one; he once had a twin brother, his only family after losing their parents. Muichiro's brother is killed by a demon, and Muichiro destroys him for it, even without training. Muichiro does manifest his Demon Slayer Mark in this episode, a major achievement which will make more sense in retrospect.
Episode four of the Swordsmith village arc saw the fight just beginning, as Hantengu's emotion demons descend on the village. Everyone is still fresh at this point, so they're fighting at an overall higher level. The emotion demons are pure chaos, equipped with interesting abilities and distinctive designs. The battle in this episode is absolutely brutal, with hands being cut off and Nezuko getting a kick through her chest. It's likely the bloodiest that the story got during this season, and it stands out for that reason alone.
The Swordsmith Village arc's fifth episode saw one of the coolest moments in the season, where Nezuko used her Blood Demon Art to set Tanjiro's sword ablaze, turning the blade bright red. Any time Tanjiro gets to use the Hinokami Kagura tends to be awesome, and that's definitely the case here, where he pulls off a stunning triple beheading in one attack. This episode also gives a taste of Mitsuri's fighting style, as well as ending on Genya's demonic reveal, making it easily one of the more important episodes in the season.
The Swordsmith Village arc's ninth episode involved Muichiro finally getting serious with the Upper Five demon, Gyokko, and beheading him at last. Gyokko was extremely depraved, even for a demon, so his death is fairly satisfying here. The battle with Upper Four, Hantengu, is also heating up by this point, with the wooden dragons having emerged to battle Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya. The episode also sees Mitsuri make her dramatic arrival to aid Tanjiro's crew, so this episode is chock-full of amazing moments.
The season finale for the Swordsmith Village arc easily ranks as the best episode of the season. Not only does it feature Tanjiro's ultimate victory over Hantengu after all the fake-outs, but it also has a major revelation for Nezuko. As the sun comes up and strikes Nezuko, she shockingly doesn't turn to dust the way other demons do. While it initially causes her great pain, it soon becomes apparent that Nezuko can withstand the sun. That's of course major for Tanjiro and Nezuko, but the news also reaches Muzan, meaning he's targeting Nezuko specifically now. The entire story has suddenly shifted such that now everyone has to be concerned for Nezuko's safety.
Tanjiro journeys to a village of swordsmiths and has to explain how his sword was so badly damaged to Hotaru Haganezuka, the smith who made it. While Tanjiro waits for his sword to be repaired, enemies close in...[1] The Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, engages the demons, but he'll need some help from Tanjiro and Genya, another Demon Slayer. It's bad enough that they have to fight two upper-rank demons, but can they handle a foe who can split itself into four separate bodies and regenerate almost instantly?[2]
Demon Slayer centers on Tanjiro who witnessed his family get slaughtered by a demon. To seek revenge, he spent years training to become a demon hunter and to turn his sister, Nezuko, back into a human again. Since its inception in 2019, the anime series has gained massive followers thanks to its intense storyline and beloved characters that fans have grown to love throughout three seasons. And as the third season is nearing its end, you can see for yourself what's next for everyone's favorite demon slayer when the 70-minute final episode airs on June 18.
We also get to see Genya, who appears to have regrown the tooth he lost, which Tanjiro kept and was rightfully called out for being a little creepy. I am not going to lie, I am so happy we finally get to see Genya, as he is one of my favorite characters. We also get to see that Upper Rank demons Gyokko and Hantengu have infiltrated the village. Gyokko is busy feasting on a villager while Hantengu has found Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Muichiro who were in a room and interrupts.
It's a village hidden to even many of those in the Demon Slayer Corps, and once Tanjiro arrives he finds that the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, has gone there as well to get some adjustments made to her own blade. He also stumbles on Genya Shinazugawa (the Wind Hashira's brother), who has come to the village as well. This first episode has yet to reveal why he's there, but makes sure to note that he's not eating any of the food he's been offered by the swordsmiths.
