I think it could be an issue with DNS, meaning if your printer is setup with a hostname and not an IP address your computer at home being on a different network will have trouble resolving the host name.
The thing we would need to know if it is setup with an IP address or host name.
You can go to the control panel
go to printers
go to printer properties
go to the ports tab
Make sure you have the right port number selected.
There are a few places where it could be being blocked,
1. The VPN Firewall at your office
If you have another laptop to try on this would eliminate this as a problem, if it works on another laptop then you know it's something with your computer or your home equipment
2. The Networking equipment at your house (not very likely)
You can try and print on the VPN at somewhere like Starbucks, this would eliminate any home equipment
3. A Firewall on your computer
You can disable the firewall on your computer and see if it prints
I have about 10 location, and all location print via VPN from this remote server, and only on this location and when I put M127fn I have problem, with M125nw this problem resolved, but I buy two 127fn and both printer not print via VPN
I don't understand this, can some hardware error with printer, or firmware oe communicate on different port? (wireshark say that 9100 and 8289 and I forward this port, but nothing, I receive error when print)
Got a brand new, fresh out of the box, HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn and installed the driver that came with it. Can't even print a test page from my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Demo page on device prints fine, but Win 7 says 'Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance?' When I do, I get 'An error occurred while troubleshooting'. I am connecting with a USB cable and Win 7 does see the device.
I'm in the same boat as KMcD91. Purchased a brand new M127fn, installed the software from the CD provided and all seemed well. All setup prints worked but once I went to print from any other program such as Notepad or MS Word, Windows 7 would throw out an error that it could not print. When I try to print a test page, it throws up the Test Page Failed to Print alert. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers from the CD and from the drivers I downloaded from the HP support site. Nothing works to get the unit to print. I have tried both connecting via USB and wired network.
If the issue persists, I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if there is a program interfering in the back ground. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
I performed all the suggestions you have provided and the device still will not print. I have even started the computer in safe mode to try and print and it does not. I can only assume it is a driver issue since the HP install and print doctor programs seem to be able to communicate with the printer to print the test page.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB printing support or the Laserjet, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected) If you have any exclamation marks or other devices in the list, right click and update the drivers.
I have tried all the suggestions in the previous post and the printer reset and it still has not resolved my issue. The printer has improved slightly in that it now prints PDF files and JPG using Adobe PDF Reader and Windows Picture viewer but not Office doucments, text files or from a web browser.
The printer is connected via USB 2.0. The USB cable is less than 6' long. The printer is connected directly in to a wall socket. The firmware has been upgraded to the latest version available from the HP Support site. The printer is being used in a home office environment.
Go into the device manager, under universal serial bus controllers, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Set the driver to print directly to the printer. Go to start, devices and printers, right click the printer, left click printer properties, click on the advanced tab, select print directly to the printer, apply and OK.
So, my pc operates on Win7-64bit. I use Remote Desktop Connection to log in to the company server, running on MS Server 2008. I purchased the HP MFP M127fn today after confirming that it is compatible with both OS listed above. I successfully installed it directly to the server via usb cord - to make sure the correct drivers downloaded to the server. I was able to test-print and print from an app while physically connected to the server. I then disconnected the printer from the server and successfully connected it to my local pc. I can test-print and print from an app on my desktop. When connect to the server via RDC, it recognizes the MFP M127fn as my default printer, and sends a print job to my local pc. I can see the job in the server print queue, I can see the print job in queue on my desktop....it spools, then says it prints, however no actual print job ever materializes.
If I select to print to the MFP M127fn fax from the server, it will open the fax window on my desktop, allow me to enter a phone number, and will dial out and send the fax. So, that driver is functioning properly.
So, my question is this: If the printer and fax claim to be successfully installed, why do I not get the print job that is sent via the server and appears in my local print queue? I get no error, either on the server side or the local desktop. They both truly think the job has printed.....but no paper ever comes out.
Our company has used several other HP printers over the years with this same set-up and have never had a problem until now. The last one was also an HP MFP - the CM1312. So, I am now completely stumped by this. I called HP support and was routed through 4 different areas before I was told that no one had a clue what the problem might be. I then called the Easy-Tech desk at Staples, where I bought the printer, and was told that it was most-likely a hardware issue and I should return the printer to swap it out for another one. If nothing would print at all, I would agree it's hardware. But, as I can print locally, I'm more-inclined to think it's driver-related......any suggestions?
I havea similar situation. Server running windows 7 and a remote machine running windows 8. I just chaged out my old 12 series mfp for a mfp127fw and cannot get it to print remotely. I have another remote setup with a mac that works just fine with the mfp127 but the windows site is a no go. Did the previous person get theres to work?
Hello. I've been having issues with my printer for the past few weeks. I haven't done anything different, but things get stuck in my print queue until I go into settings, find the printer, and troubleshoot. That is the only thing that will trigger the files to print. It doesn't do this for every file, and they are often simple Word files or pdfs.
Last week I decided to look for updated drivers and downloaded the most recent ones from the HP site. I'm pretty sure they are the same ones already installed, but I figured it was worth a try. I uninstalled, then successfully re-installed the printer drivers. The test page printed fine, but then I immediately got an error message on my computer saying "An error occurred communicating with the printer."
I don't think it should make a difference, but this printer has never been my default printer. I've typically use our network copier for multiple pages, and use this printer when I need a single page printed. Never had an issue until recently.
I'm sorry if I didn't state this in my OP. The issue isn't clearing the queue, because I've figured out how to do that. (But thank you for an alternative method.) The issue is how to prevent files from getting stuck in the queue. This is a new problem that I've never encountered before with this printer. It doesn't seem to be a particular type of file and is happening randomly. Troubleshooting or using the printer spooling service only clears the queue, it doesn't identify or fix the root of the problem.
i m using win 10 64 bit for 3 to 4 years. its genuine upgraded from win 7 to win 10. i have been using hp laserjet mfp pro m127fn printer on same laptop for 3 years but after i reinstall and updated window i have been facing an issue installing printer. it gives error at 99%. i have tried all methods and tricks found online. i have hp 4530s probook .i reinstalled window 2 3 times to install the driver. but it did not work.
I tried all above mentioned steps. no hp printer is listed before nor in deices and printers and nor in print server properties. also there is no hp printer file or folder in program data.but i tried to install same error showing at 99%.
I have another Lenovo laptop with win10 genuine. i was using this hp laserjet pro mfp 127fn printer on this Lenovo laptop. Today i uninstall the printer and tried reinstalling. but it also stuck on 99% giving issue fatal error. I think HP should change driver installation method. there should be only software file. and we dont have to connect laptop.
I have installed the M127fn as a network printer on 5 machines with no problem, MAC, Win Vista, Win 7 and Win 8.1 (2). However on another machine, also running Win 8.1, Preparing to install gets to 73% and fails with the following; "Error A problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system. Please restart your computer, and run this installer again. If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product." It does this with both the software on the CD as well as the downloader version. I am running it as administrator with Norton Internet Security and Malware Bytes disabled. I have used the Uninstall on the CD several times to remove any partially installed files to no avail.
