NUMBER ONE
April 6 in Pittsburgh, a performance by Alia Musica of Shadow in the Hot Sun for soprano, accordion, and string trio, newly revamped from its years in the wilderness (or at least in Villecroze, home of the composition workshop where I threw it together in a hurry four years ago). I've fixed up the real problem spots and left the stuff that was already just about perfect. This US Premiere will feature soprano Jamie Jordan in a wordless role and accordionist Henry Doktosrki on the now-athletic-as-well-as-colorful accoridion part, and, of course, the magnificent Federico Garcia conducting. At 7:30pm at BRICOLAGE, 937 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.

NUMBERS TWO AND THREE
April 14 and 21: Tami Morse is giving the official (acoustic) premiere of my new harpsichord piece, Retouchage from On retouche les nouveaux habits du roi. (On retouche -- "altering the emperor's new clothes" -- is the holding tank for a Frescobaldi Toccata my piece is based on, Retouchage (my reconstruction of the toccata, "Alterations"), and sometimes even another one by another living composer that hasn't been totally confirmed yet so I don't want to talk about it). The 14th in Minneapolis (watch my website for details), the 21st at The Baroque Room, 275 East 4th Street, Suite 280 in Lowertown St. Paul, MN. Y'know, I'll write again when I can tell y'all times...

NUMBER FOUR
May 21: This piece is tentatively called Hell Study. It's inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights' final panel, the inevitable hell to which all us delighting sinners shall fall. My piece also contains a healthy sampling of tunes from Green Day and Joe Walsh. (what greater hell can you imagine???!) Hell Study is written for flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, and 'cello, and it will be performed by Ensemble Sillages as part of their workshop/residency/whatever it is at CRR93 with Martin Matalon's composition class, of which I am a member. That'll be out in the 'burbs, as usual, at La Courneuve Conservatory. More details in a future newsletter :-)

June 6, 7, 8: ***Performance IN PARIS*** not in the suburbs **put it on your calendars and take advantage!!** Signal from the Noise string quartet. Two composers. Three authors. Three photographers. Four string players. Three wild nights of multimedia extravagance. (If I can ever finish the danged piece -- half an hour turns out to be a long amount of time to fill...) At Grace Teshima Gallery in Montmartre - more details to come.

6 avril : A Pittsburgh, une interprétation par Alia Musica de Shadow in the Hot Sun (pour soprano, accordéon, et trio à cordes), récemment rajeunie depuis ses années dans le désert (ou au moins à Villecroze, où se situe l'atelier de composition où je l'ai écrite trop fait il y a 4 ans). J'ai rénové les parties problématiques tout en laissant ce qui était déjà presque parfait. Cette création américaine présentera le soprano Jamie Jordan dans un rôle sans paroles et l'accordéoniste Henry Doktorski jouant sa partie rendue sportif, aisni que plein de couleur, tout, bien sur, sous la direction du magnifique Federico Garcia. A 19h30 à BRICOLAGE, 937 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh centre-ville.

14 & 21 avril : Tami Morse donnera la création officielle (et acoustique) de ma nouvelle pièce pour clavecin, Retouchage du projet On retouche les nouveaux habits du roi. (On retouche, c'est un encadrement incluant la toccata de Frescobaldi sur laquelle ma pièce est basée, avec Retouchage (ma reconstruction de la toccata), et éventuellement une autre pièce par un autre compositeur vivant qui n'est pas encore confirmé). Deux représentations sont prévues, le 14 avril à Minneapolis (surveillez mon site web pour détails), et le 21 au Baroque Room, 275 East 4th Street, Suite 280 à Lowertown St. Paul, MN. Je vous récrirai plus tard avec les horaires ...

21 mai : Cette pièce s'appelle, provisoirement, Hell Study. L'inspiration vient du dernier panneau du Jardin de Délices, le triptyque de Jérôme Bosch, l'enfer inévitable où nous nous retrouverons tous, nous les pêcheurs délicieux. La pièce contient aussi une bonne portion de mélodies de Green Day et Joe Walsh (imaginez-vous un pire enfer?!!) Hell Study est pour flûte, clarinette, piano, percussions, violon, et violoncelle, et sera interprétée par l'Ensemble Sillages lors de leur atelier/résidence au CRR93 avec la classe de composition de Martin Matalon, dont je fait parti. Elle sera presenté le 21 mai en banlieue parisienne, comme d'habitude, au Conservatoire de La Courneuve. Détails et infos pratiques dans le prochain bulletin :-)

6 - 7 - 8 juin : Attention, des concerts A PARIS et non pas en banlieue **marquez-les sur vos calendriers et profitez-en !!** Le quatuor à cordes de Signal from the Noise. 2 compositeurs. 3 écrivains. 3 photographes. 4 musiciens. 3 soirées de folie multi-média pour tous les sens. . (Ceci bien sur si je réussi a terminer cette pièce -- j'apprends qu'une demi-heure de musique prenne beaucoup de temps pour remplir ...) Les concerts auront lieu à la galerie Grace Teshima à Montmartre - plus de détails à suivre.
