ICAR project on – “Vulnerability Assessment and Evolving
Adaptation strategies for Climate resilient Agriculture in Semi –Arid regions
of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry”
M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation is seeking applications from eligible
candidates for the following positions for an ICAR Project. The duration of the
project is three years.
1. Research Associate (2 Nos.) - Pudukottai / Pondicherry
Job description: S/he will initially carry out a baseline survey of the Project
villages and document the traditional climate adaptation strategies being
practiced by the farming community and will analyse the climate data to
understand the impact. Based on the baseline survey and in consultation with
the farmers, s/he will plan for appropriate climate resilient interventions to
be carried out in the major crops in the respective field sites. The Field
trials need to be regularly monitored with scientific data collected
periodically.
Building the capacities and skills of the community, working on the backward
and forward linkages viz., financial linkages, technical trainings and linking
up with government / civil society organizations and market will be some of the
essential roles. Good knowledge of English / Tamil is necessary.
Qualification and experiences: PhD./ Master’s degree in agriculture and allied
disciplines. Possessing good field experience in carrying out participatory
crop based trials. Candidates who have also worked in the development sector
and who understand the importance of working with farmers (Minimum three years)
on Farmers Field schools, Participatory technology Development, varietal
trials, integrated pest and nutrient management will be an advantage.
Experiences in managing watershed and sustainable agriculture projects will be
an added advantage.
2. Field Assistance – Pudukottai / Pondicherry
Job description: S/he will have to work in close association with the farmers,
agricultural departments and other informal sectors, conduct and conduct
regular trainings, workshops, farmer’s field schools, be in the forefront of
introducing new crops/varieties to the farmers etc. Make regular monitoring
visits to partner organisations and project implementation sites to review
progress of work and provide strategic inputs. Travel will be part of the job.
Knowledge of English and Tamil is necessary.
Qualification and experiences: This position seeks a candidate with a B.Sc /
Diploma in Agriculture. Candidates who have also worked in the development
sector and who understand the importance of working with farmers (Minimum three
years) on PTD, varietal trials, integrated pest and nutrient management will be
an advantage.
