Forthose that don't know, the console versions allow you to play with other players on the same device with split screen, yet for some reason the option is completely missing on PC, and I find this choice to be extremely weird considering how upon world creation, one of the options for opening your world is "local" (who are you supposed play locally with?). I don't even think the option is missing from the code of the PC version (most console enabled features are still in the PC version's code, just disabled) but rather that it's simply not enabled for some weird arbitrary reason. I legitimately can't think of an explanation for this choice, is it because splitscreen is coded to detect multiple controllers and the devs don't want to make it detect multiple types of inputs? Or is it to encourage people to buy a console version while already owning the PC one just to play with their family members? I would really like to hear a response from the dev team about why such an obvious feature is completely absent on what is otherwise the most complete version to experience the game
And because I know some people are inevitably going to make some remark about it: Yes, people do in fact play games on split screen on PC, a splitscreen game literally won game of the year, there is no reason for this option to be disabled on a PC game that is literally called "Don't Starve Together"
That being said I think it'd be really good if they just allowed you to also play splitscreen on pc, both because lan play would require several pcs to work which can be expensive and because on paper there shouldn't really be too many issues with it on pc if it's already a standard thing on console.
i think this one is through Lan. other device with same connection/network.
this is why klei give PC version a copy of game so two person can play together while not able to do it on split screen.
So... Any news on this? Would love to be able to play the game in split-screen on the TV via steam link, but as it stands Stardew valley is basically the only game me and the GF can play together on the couch...
Bumping this, I've played DST on my Ps5 and honestly it's quite solid, not my preferred way to play but if it allows me to play with someone it's a great compromise. Would love to bring my Steam Deck over to a friends and play splitscreen there.
This absolutely has to be brought up; Steam has been pushing towards a more console-like experience for the past few years now, a lot of my friends own decks and I myself use steam link sometimes to play PC games in my living room. This notion that split screen on a PC game is somehow ridiculous needs to die out. I hope Klei notice this thread and at least consider this change
Girlfriend and I are playing "online" together on our separate systems in the house. I can not figure out how to stop split screen so we both don't have half a screen on our respective systems. Anyone know how?
I wouldnt mind it but for some reason even though we are local network there is still lag on what I see her doing vs what she is actually doing....doesnt seem to be impacting actual gameplay as I can see her in my window, but I will see her standing still, be like babe please do the thing, then notice in my half of screen she is doing the thing. Super annoying, but we are just going to play off my PC together since we are forced to split screen anyways, kinda lame but game is fun so far.
You can't turn it off, which seems really stupid when you're given an option for lan play and are both playing on different consoles, maybe you don't need or want to see what the other person is doing in their view either or you don;t have a mahoosive screen just for gaming.
However, this is like the lego games 2 play split screen, it's not a fix, but it's something you might be able to use.
I play it takes 2 and lego games on steam usually with my daughter, Most graphics cards allow you to plug in two monitors (or even if you haven't got one plugged in and enable extended desktop you can move the mouse itno som phanom zone off screen)
My point however, in steam (And it should work with other split screen games) there is a display config you can download called "softh", you simply pop it into your exe folder, edit the text to set the screen size of your main montior and your tv / spare monitor etc, it will then automatically resize both left and right (Or up and down) to fit, so essentially both of your views are playing in seperate monitors like expanded desktop but in different resolutions on each, you can specify which is left and right to show the view you want in the monitor you want.
Admittedly, you need a decent graphics card though this works flawlessly with very old ones I have tested on good resolutions, and also if you only are using one monitor you're rendering things that can't be seen in the other or into nothing (But you can set that to a tiny resolution so it doesn't impact your play much)
Hope that helps

I have the distinct feeling there is a souring of the relationship and disconnect between Wildcard and Sony given they've refused to do a next gen upgrade after they struck the deal with Microsoft for Ark 2 exclusivity. All the evidence points to that and it's unlikely to be coincidental. One of the main reasons I bought PS5 as quickly as I could was to play ARK's final big DLC with the graphics I always saw & envied in content creators vid in Youtube alongside their promise to upgrade them to match PC. If anything they should have come out and say it wouldn't occur ,for whatever reason, rather than the cowardly approach of silence and stringing along their customers after making a promise. Anyways, customer satisfaction and keeping promises seems to be an issue industry wide in the last 5yrs or so
I'm still getting the Oregami textures issue on PS5 though not as much as before. Now mostly on specific creatures like the Magapithecus and Magmasaur. The game still doesn't load textures as seamlessly as it did before overall. I'm not 100% sure but it feels like when certain creatures that have an issue loading textures create a bottleneck which then causes everything else near them not load/break as soon as you pan around.
I literally just made an account for this and I'm irked that I have to. My brother and I have been having multiple issues playing Single player split screen on Ps4. The graphical/mesh issues are annoying, but the VERY least of the problems we're having.
We're having issues where sometimes it doesn't act as though water exists, so when you go into water you don't float, you can only walk on the land and you're unaffected by the oxygen status. Basically you can do everything you would on land under water, but that's not even one of the worst issues because this is at least fixed by logging out and back in.
I guess it's a problem with split screen being in play, but we physically can't travel into the desert biome on lost island together. We built a mini base to hide my body on a beach that's next to some little islands that lead to the desert biome because when we try to go together the game continually blue screens, but when I log off and he goes on his own it allows him to go. It's aggravating to see him struggle out there and be unable to help.
To make make matters worse, when he logged out and back in to force save his progress on one of those little islands, the sinamacrops he was very attached to, who had been on his back before he logged out, has disappeared into thin air. We can't even see it with the owls heat seeking. It won't respond to whistles, it isn't dead in the tribe log, it's not on the mini island he logged off on, it's not in the air, it's not under the map or in the ocean. It's just gone. How the raptor does this happen? How do you push out the game with such game breaking issues?
