'God made man in His own image.'
Human body, a few pounds of flesh on a skelton, is, in fact, God's
temple. The divine spark or the soul makes the human body the most
valuable and the most fortunate creation on the earth. The worth of it
lies in the sole capacity of the indwelling soul to unite and remain
united with the Oversoul.
The body is not a barrier but an ideal medium for this Union. Unlike
the gross body, the indwelling soul is not inert but a conscious
medium for the blissful union of the soul with the Oversoul. Millions
of pores of the body can experience the bliss of the divine union.
This blessedness is beyond compare and beyond description.
Unfortunately, by and large, human beings are ignorant of this fact
and suffer the birth-death cycle by considering themselves as bodies.
Intrinsically, a human is neither the body nor the mind, but the holy
spirit to function in the material world with the body and the mind as
the tools. The chief aim of a human being is to realise his true
identity as a divine being. His stay on the earth is temporary and his
permanent abode is God Formless. This awareness in the form of Self-
knowledge, bestowed by a Lord Master, can make the human body a holy
shrine-Temple of God.
When the body is regarded as a Temple, then God within it is
worshipped by His constant remembrance (Simran), loved by singing His
glory in the holy congregation (Sangat) and served by serving humanity
(Seva).
Of course, cleanliness and maintenance of the 'temple' ought to be
done remembering that God dwells in it.
The world is a stage and we are all actors, said Shakespeare. The
Director, the Producer and the Financer of the play is God. Awareness
of God's presence within and all around, at all points of time, makes
life blissful. It best-ows wisdom to remain detached from all worldly
affairs and relations while performing one's worldly duties with
sincerity, devotion and dedication. However, behind the 'curtain' is
the omni-present God Almighty. The stron-ger one's bond with God and
the deeper one's love for all, the more and more sacred one's body
is.
A human body thus becomes a means of purification and purging of base
impulses, so that the divine spark may shine and sparkle. When a human
realises his true identity that he is a soul and not a body, the
prevailing mist of illusion that human is a body, is cleared.
Spiritual rays illumine the human mind and the soul realises itself as
a ray of the ever glorious Sun-God-, the omni-present.
All humans need to become true humans, divine beings, and this can be
accomplished only in the human life by knowing that they are ever
glorious souls. Only such ones can be the Living Temples of God and
bring about peace on the earth.
May all be so blessed by the grace of the Lord Master.
