What a surprise? That's right, His Holiness Satguru Baba Hardev Singh
Ji Maharaj surprised the saints of Washington D.C. with his divine
presence on Wednesday, August 1st, 2007. His Holiness arrived D.C. on
early Wednesday morning around 1:00am by road. Washington D.C. branch
had arranged a congregation in Sterling, VA. Even though it was a
surprise visit on such short notice the devotees of His Holiness
gathered from many places; namely, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey,
Connecticut, Rochester, Indiana, Ohio, Milwaukee, Chicago, Atlanta,
North Carolina, and Toronto, Canada. There were over 550 devotees and
guests present to attain the darshans of His Holiness Satguru Baba
Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj.

The Samagam started at 4pm and visiting saints from all over shared
their thoughts. Amongst the speakers were Rev. Daya Singh Ji, Brother
Pardeep Ji, and Sister Manjula Ji of Pennslyvania. Rev. Sherry Ji of
North Carolina, Rev. Meena Pandey Ji of New York, and Rev. Parduman
Singh Ji of Toronto. All the speakers who came up shared a common
theme of love for all mankind through divine enlightenment. Many
devotees shared their views in a hymn whereas others spoke of their
personal experiences; however, the message remained consistent, the
message of Universal Brotherhood.

As His Holiness and the party arrived at the congregation venue, the
Washington D.C. Sangat children welcomed His Holiness Babaji, Her
Holiness Mataji, Rev. Khem Raj Chadha Ji (Secretary SNM World Head
Quarters) Rev. Dilbag Ji, Rev. Sundeep Khinda Ji and Holy Sister Samta
Ji at the hall entrance with flowers. Satguru Babaji and party
embraced their love by passing big smiles and finally entered the
Samagam hall, where members of the Peace Federation were present to
welcome His Holiness and party. The Peace Federation members honored
His Holiness and Her Holiness as the Ambassador of Peace.

Finally, the moment all had been waiting for, the words of His
Holiness:
Babaji focused on the need and importance of peace, brotherhood, love
and compassion over the lower natures of humans such as ignorance,
hate and jealousy. Addressing to the Nirankari devotees, Babaji
emphasized that, as the enlightened souls, we have to work harder to
become the epitome of peace, love, compassion and brotherhood as
others will be looking on to us for moral leadership and guidance.
Baba Ji further indicated that peace begins from within our hearts,
and only when we are able to bring it there, we can begin bringing it
to the world. Babaji reminded us that all of the prophets in the past
have encouraged love and compassion over hatred and jealousy. Babaji
stated that "No matter what our status is in the society, we must
remember foremost that we are human beings first, and as such, we must
embrace human values of love and compassion." He used an analogy to
illustrate his point by stating that fire brigades put out fire using
water not oil since oil would only enflame the fire more, and as such
we must also use love and compassion to remove hatred from this
world. If we respond to another's ignorant and hateful ways with
anger and more hate, we will only inflame the hate within the other
person's heart further. We must also remember that just because one
person offers you hate and anger, we don't have to offer the same in
return. Babaji stated that it is easy to rip a cloth, but much more
difficult to sow it back together. Similarly, he added, that it takes
a lot less effort to push some one in the water to let one drown,
however, it takes a lot of effort to save some one from drowning.
But benevolent people do not take the easy path of pushing others to
raise their image, but they are always there to lend a helping hand.
Babaji also stated that we human share one earth even though we reside
in various parts of this earth, and he stated further that we all
share the same paternity in form of mankind even if we belong to
different nations. We must stop fighting with each other what ever we
feel our reasons are if we are to progress as a species or even as a
civilization.

Babaji also conveyed to us that we must not only think and act towards
materialistic growth, but we must also grow spiritually. Nirankar has
given us everything that we need, but we always want more, and in the
process we loose Him (the Giver and the Doer). We must look beyond
our desires, if we are to gain control of our mind, body and our
actions. Babaji shared a story of a mother and her two daughters.
When the mother asked her younger daughter, that if she had $10 and
she gave $2 each to 4 of her friends out of 5 friends, how much will
be left? The elder daughter immediately replied and said that she
will have 4 friends left. In this world today we have all attached
ourselves with the materialistic things, even when we pray to God we
ask for the worldly gifts, and forget the real purpose of our life.
Babaji told us that Saints have the most important responsibility of
spreading the path of spiritual progress to others while they lead as
the highest models of Spiritual discipline. Babaji stressed on the
point that we must incorporate the Gyan (Divine Enlightenment) into
our lives. We can read all the spiritual books in the world, but all
of it means nothing unless the lessons learned are incorporated into
actions. We all have high aims and goals for ourselves whether it be
related to education or our professional lives, but we forget to set
goals for our spiritual life. Babaji blessed everyone so that we may
all be able to set high goals for our spiritual life also, and be one
with Nirankar. May we all be able to see Nirankar in everyone, in
youngsters, in elders, in our loved ones and in strangers.

Babaji blessed everyone so that we may all be able to set high goals
for our spiritual life also, and be one with Nirankar. May we all be
able to see Nirankar in everyone, in youngsters, in elders, in our
loved ones and in strangers. Even though when measured in time, His
Holiness spent only a few hours in Washington D.C., but His physical
presence truly has blessed all of us. It was ecstatic to experience
Nirankar's physical hand on our heads. What more proof do we need
that Nirankar has blessed us? As the Gurbani says: "Brahmgyani aap
Parmeshwar"
