nifti2 cifti ... nibabel

Hello everyone,

having been exploring the new cifti format I was wondering if anything was planned for integrating first nifti2, then cifti in nibabel for which I would be greatly interested.
Other question, do you think it would be possible, maybe only in nibabel to have some kind of abstraction of the data storage: I mean a nifti2/cifti file being stored either as hdf5 or regular binary file?
