Bigger Problem : I had locked many folders with this software when it was working fine.
But now I can't access those folders anymore, they're still locked but software doesn't show these folders in its "locked folders list".
How do I unlock them?
The software was working fine for few months - I was able to lock and unlock things in my computer during that period. But all of a sudden the software Folder Lock just got reset somehow.
I had the same problem. I was not able to retrieve my locked files but uninstall of folder lock without password is easily done by using for example speed commander (select folder lock from program files via speed commander and delete) Simple as that.(no password required) Can also be done with other file finding software as well.
The only way I know is to change the name of the parent directory in which the locked folder exists for example Pictures is the locked folder then change C:/Anything/Pictures to C:/Anything else/Pictures
Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
I would like to ask how the lock tabs feature can be used. I just updated to the latest version, 12.22 Light edition and I followed these instructions which were found in the manual:
"Folder tabs can be locked in a number of different ways. Primarily, when a tab is locked, it always displays the same folder. To lock a tab, right-click on it and choose a command from the context menu's Lock Tab menu."
(Something we have on our list to make built-in in the future. The current built-in purpose of locked tabs is more about keeping them from changing folders, as described in the manual screenshot in the post above mine.)
I have a folder that was sent to me by a client a couple of years ago that I can't remove from my Dropbox. The folder has a grey padlock on the bottom left corner and also an X in a red circle on the bottom right corner - see screen shot. I am using a Mac with OS Mojave 10.14.6

This did not work because when I logged in under test the folder did not show up in my drop box. It only seems to show up in the finder window when when I open my dropbox files from the icon in the top menu bar??? Even when I open dropbox.com on the web the folder does not show up???
The problem seems not just permissions, but owning. Your can read this for more information how to revert owning. It's normal when you switch to different user not to see directly Dropbox folder of the initial user. Every user have their own such folder. You have to be still able to navigate to appropriate Dropbox directory - just go to appropriate user directory first. Or may be the terminal solution would be better. The choice is yours.
I tried to use the terminal but it kept saying illegal user name? Maybe I wasn't entering the info correctly? Also becasue the file was not mine in the first place does this mean that I can never remove it?
First of all i am a beginner. My data is stored in a particular folder and i don't want the user to find it out and open the content.. This content of folder will be used frequently by application (read & write). Please help me...
If the Operator needs to log in to run the application which saves to the Application Data folder, then they would need access to that folder, which means it's either within their own folder (thus they can access/modify the file) or it is in another folder to which they have permission to write to. In either case, if the Operator runs the application and as a result of running the application a file is created to store data, then they would have access to that file.
One trick would be to save it in a complicated deep folder somewhere or on a network drive which allows to save a file once, but not allow to edit it (that's what they have here). It may be possible to do the same arrangement on a PC with permissions. Again that's an OS specific feature.
Ton's advice is a good start. That will place your programs application data in the standard spot that all other applications should be using. This location (I think) is a hidden folder by default (at least on the Windows OS). If the user feels like being a little hacker and mess with the files in the folder, then they are bringing application errors upon themselves.
The same guy in question had no programming experience. He actually managed to get a job as a LabVIEW programmer after claiming that he wrote the software.. He was hired as a test operator and "stole" the source code..
Thank You Ton . I am using LabVIEW 8.6. Is this application data function available in 8.6?? As mentioned by Ray if the user have admin privilege he can surely edit it. We are now facing problem in which the operator will try to edit these logged files....we tried to protect it by changing extension but they found that also..
Simple to use and deploy encryption tool that relies on hiding files from prying eyes as much as encryption to protect sensitive documents. Sadly, it transgresses many security standards by making the serial number a master password.
An approach where you cross your fingers or convince yourself that nothing you have is worth the effort to take it might suffice, but at some point, almost inevitably, your computer will be compromised, and you will wish that you had taken more care of its contents.
Folder lock is software designed to let even a non-technical user take control of files and folders on their system, and even USB key stored content, and secure it from those that might want access with nefarious intent.
The standard price of a Folder Lock licence is $49.95, but at the time of writing, it can be purchased for just $39.95. A single-user license allows you to use Folder Lock on only one computer, requiring an additional license for each one that you intend to use it on.
Working alongside the Locker encryption model is Secure Backup, a service to copy the encrypted drives to the Cloud. From the Secure Backup online storage, they can be recovered following a system theft or hardware failure.
A free monthly trial where 100GB of space is included is available, and the cost of this facility is based on the amount of space you need, scaling up to Terabytes. However, if you were expecting Secure Backup Cloud storage to cost the same as it might from Google, Microsoft, or Amazon, then you will be disappointed.
For comparison, Microsoft charges $99.99 per year for Microsoft 365 Family, including Office 365 for six installations and 1TB of online storage backup, almost the exact cost as 500GB of capacity for one month on Secure Backup.
Sorry I haven't replied back to any of your comments guys. This is the
first time I've logged into this site in a long time. This instructable was something I made when I was in 8th grade. Yes I know my grammar is terrible and my spelling is even worse. This was just something I done for fun. It was never meant to be "secure or encrypted." Also this was only meant to work in Windows XP. I see that some of you have found ways to make it work in other OS and I think that's great. Most of your problems are probably related to using windows vista or windows 7. If you forgot your password just make another locker.bat and delete the old one. Just because you delete the locker.bat or locker.exe for those who converted it, doesn't mean you delete the folder where your files are stored. I will try to come back more often and respond to your comments and questions.
If your laptop is stolen, the thief can boot up your computer from a removable device and access your files. Or, they can remove the hard disk, install it on another computer, and gain access to all of your files and personal data.
Keep your data safe with Avast BreachGuard. If your passwords or other personal data are ever leaked online, BreachGuard will warn you ASAP. That way, you can regain control of your accounts before anyone has the chance to log in with your credentials.
Folder Lock comes with a powerful file shredder and a cloud-based backup solution as well. The demo is free, while the full-version is $39.95. Knowing how to lock a folder in Windows costs a bit of money, but the functionality and customization makes it worth it. Now you know how to password protect a folder.
You can also use disk-encryption software for more robust security than just a password. These tools block even the most advanced brute-force attacks, which try to crack passwords and encryption keys using different combinations.
This kind of full-encryption software adds an extra layer of security by incorporating both password and encryption protection to your files, meaning that the actual contents of files and folders are encrypted and protected by much stronger and more complex decryption keys.
With support for AES, Serpent, and TwoFish keys, VeraCrypt is a free, cross-platform data security tool that can encrypt files very effectively. VeraCrypt comes with full disk encryption but can encrypt at the volume (folder) level as well. Users can decide whether they want specific folders encrypted or entire systems.
Password protection is like locking something in a safe, like a highly sensitive document. Encryption is like rearranging all the letters in a document so that they can only be placed back in the correct order if you have a special decoder key.
