I'm new to AutoCAD and to plotting and I don't know what to expect. I would like a path to plot from AutoCAD to a 2-D vinyl cutter. The specific make/model I have is a Roland GS-24, but I'm interested in the broader question as well, of if there exists easy paths from AutoCAD to cutters.
I think I just needed the courage to believe it would just work. After installing all the printer drivers, it showed up in the printer list. Then, the first 10 times I tried to plot, nothing happened. Finally, with the right combination of settings, it suddenly started working:
If you want to direct AutoCAD plotting to Roland GS-24 cutter, you may need a vinyl cutting plug-in software, I am using XFCut plug-in software for Adobe Illustrator, But I'm not sure if it supports AutoCAD. you can download the trial verison of xfcut from and have a try.

But there's one major problem I cannot solve. We have a Roland cutter plotter. It uses Roland CutStudio. In software like Illustrator or Corel there is a CutStudio plugin that can be installed to cut directly from the app.
And if I try to export it from affinity to eps and then import it into CutStudio, CutStudio always gives an error (though I can export the same design to eps from Corel, for example, and CutStudio will open it).
@xSardina Have you found a way to utilize Affinity with CutStudio? I cannot get CutStudio to open a very simple file from Affinity. I am proficient with Inkscape but that plugin never worked for me. I'd hate to have to move to ANOTHER software like CD or AI.
Using a lot of the info in the [FAQ] Affinity Designer and Cricut cutting machines posted above, I'm able to cut directly out of Designer. Just did File-->Print and chose my Roland as the printer. Document set to 72dpi, everthing selected then merge curves. Works great.
Search for the user manual for it online. Just about every user manual is out there. . You can compare the pictures of the user manual to it. The user manual should tell you a copyright date in it. Copyright date is close to the date/age of the cutter. If you have Flexi 10, see if the cutter is listed on it. Search for the cutter online. The specs will tell you whether it is servo or stepper.
It probably does need an older computer to connect, because you don't have USB. That is either an LPT (parallel) port or DB9 serial, which are legacy outputs; today's computers don't have those ports anymore.
I do not have signblazer but I do have Signcut. Will it support Windows 7? I mean will there be any aftermarket type of driver available by any chance that can support the cutter with windows 7 if I can;t find anything on Roland's site?
The only USB to serial adapter guaranteed to work with vinyl cutter is a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter, with a null modem cable. We mention it all the time on here. I can use Flexistarter 10, on my XP computer, So that is not a problem. The Tripplite Keyspan will work on Windows 7, and has it's own driver. If the Roland is in in Flexistarter 10, then it will run the cutter. Find the best price
It appears that circuitry on the CPU has gotten corrupted somehow. It's not taking the data and converting it correctly to instructions on what to plot, and instead is taking the data and reproducing that directly as output.
Did anything change? That's interesting that it's actually plotting the code. It's as if the part of the code that tells the cutter to follow the instructions is missing and it's essentially "printing" the instructions.
