Hi

Last fall I sent an email to the Cottagers' Association members
concerning a maintenance plan for the Old Maple Trail, aka "Fire Road
207".

I suggested a meeting of all interested parties on the May 24th
weekend (Victoria Day weekend).

Initially, I offered my cottage/camp as the meeting location, but I am
now suggesting we meet at the parking area at the end of the road, on
Saturday May 19th at 11:00 AM

Agenda:

Estimated Costs:
• load of gravel, between $300 - $500
• Cost per cottage depends on number of participants
• Who will order gravel?

Possible Dates for Repairs:
• Which dates work for people?
o June 2nd
o June 9th
o June 16th

So, how exactly do we repair a road?
• dig drainage ditches at problem spots
• fill in problem spots with gravel
• The Moore/ Curr/Dyball group mentioned they had access to a mini
loader. Is this still the case?
• Any knowledge or wisdom would be welcome.

Ongoing maintenance?
• What can we do in the future to help maintain the road?
o slow down when driving through water holes?
o clean out the drainage ditches regularly?
o Other?

I have no contact information for the Franko's, if someone could pass
this information along to them, thanks.

Please reply to this email with your intentions:
• Willing to share the costs?
• Willing, or able, to help with the repairs?
• If you are able to help, then which dates work?
• Planning to attend the meeting?
• Do you know how to repair a road????

Thanks
Bob Theisz

Hi Bob and everyone else,
I will not be able to attend the road repair meeting, we aren't making our way north this weekend. As I do use the road, I will definitely do my part to contribute. I will split the costs associated with the gravel, and my best day for repairs is June 9. I have limited road repair knowledge but all you've suggested sound right on track.

At my place of employment we take care of our parking lot and access road maintenance, but means of a box scraper. Essentially, large tines which dig down a couple of inches and a box or blade to smooth things back out, all pulled behind a tractor. It redistributes the gravel to an even surface. Seems to work quite well. Possibly we could find one in the area for hire.

David has just purchased a backhoe loader and was talking about fixing the road with it, more out of the goodness of his heart then anything else.

David has a sand pit in his back yard... He owns a house about 1km north of nine mile lake road.

I would suggest offering david some $ for annual maintenance of the road. He might be happy with a few hundred a year + any materials that need to be purchased ie. gravel where it needs to be used. This should all come at less then $50,30? per cottage per year.... David just paid 9k for his backhoe loader.

I have a back how loader tractor as well, but no truck/ trailer to get it from Coldwater to nine mile lake.

I have a barn burning this weekend, and I've already given blood this spring...

Hi All,

Sorry we missed the meeting; I spoke to David Jefferys, and I understand he's going to do this work with his new machine at a deal price, much thanks!

Our cabin will be under construction for most of the summer, so we won't be staying there; but we would support the idea of a weekend afternoon of clearing back the parking lot.

Either way, we're in for whatever our share is!

All the best,

Grant Rowe
