Dear NIME Community, 

In the midst of a loud and rather dizzying few years of new AI Music/Audio projects, there's a lack of high quality data on what practicing musicians actually want from these tools, and what might be getting in the way. Much of the activity in machine learning for audio can feel inaccessible to artists, who often aren't part of the conversation. 

Whether you're excited by this stuff, deeply sceptical of it, or somewhere in between, I want to hear from you. Your view matters just as much either way. 

Your help is needed in building a clearer picture of how these tools can be developed in a way that's more cognisant of how artists actually operate in practice. 

This anonymous survey (which takes less than 10 minutes) is part of my PhD research at MTU Cork School of Music, Ireland. It looks at how musicians think about AI music tools and what they might want from them. 

Your responses will directly inform the design of open source tools intended to make these systems more usable for musicians without a technical background.
