If you are experiencing an app crash with Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, there are a few steps you can take to try and fix the issue. First, try running a System File Checker scan to repair any corrupted system files. You can also try running an antivirus scan to check for any malicious software that may be causing the issue. Additionally, try updating your drivers and any applications that are related to the issue. If these steps do not help, you may need to reinstall the application or contact the software developer for additional support.

Hi, I have a very similar problem and want to make sure one thing to not ruin my Windows 11 installation. In my case ntdll.dll 10.0.22621.1485 causes an error on my personal PC whan I run an .exe, program, which I re-installed and runed in different ways in different compatibility modes with no success: same error occurs. If I downgrade ntdll.dll to a 10.0.19041.423 Version, is that fatal? ntdll.dll is an essensial file to run Windows properly. I have just to manually give the "Trustinstaller" the rights back to run it properly after rebooting my PC, after replacing it in the System32 folder, right?

This is not a new app, I just developed new features (couple of windows, module and classes), nothing funny.
The app previous version (Xojo 2016r3) is still running on the same server.
All plugins and controls were already used in the previous (working) version

I'm trying to debug executable notepad.exe (from Windows 10 distribution), and symbols ntdll.pdb from Microsoft symbols server are required, but debugger returns an error that they cannot find file specified:

When i run "cmd" from the Run prompt, it shows C:\Users\User0000004. For 2003 servers, it used to show C:\Users\. When i checked c:\users folder, all the folders that should have previously logged in user names were renamed to User000001, User0000002, User0000003 etc.

Hey there, i have done that on a windows 2019 server vdi setup and my Edge (Chromium) starts but dont output any sound and edge is not shown in the sound mixer application but on a edge tab which should playing sound it got the soundsymbol.

I suspect a driver issue but can't seem to find a way to isolate with print driver may be causing the issue. We currently have >200 printers deployed from this server with several different drivers so the idea of updating/changing one at a time feels a bit overwhelming. It seems to be the same issue mentioned in Printer Spooler dying on Print server, windows 2016 (spiceworks.com) but I do not see that being resolved. Any help is greatly appreciated.

We had an issue here where we just installed 3 new Konica MFPs and we suddenly had print server issues. After going to the properties -> Ports -> Configure Port -> Unchecked SNMP Status Enabled (this was done on all 3 new machines) all printer server issues disappeared.

My 2 cents... If it were me; and there were not an extraordinary amount of printers, I'd probably just spend the time setting up a new print server (newest version of Windows you have). I'd establish the most volume oriented printers first, and then install the drivers for each OS you need.

I've worked in an environment that completely removed their print server and went back to direct network printing, because of print instability. Sometimes a print server can introduce an unnecessary single point of failure.

Building from scratch is a last resort, with over 200 printers it would be a tedious task as I would not want to import the printers from the troublesome server. It may have to happen, I was just hoping for some way to isolate what driver is causing the issue. May just be wishful thinking though. :(

Hello everyone, It seems since Deep Security Manager update performed by our security team on a server, our supervision does not work anymore. We are receiving error like this in Event Viewer : Faulting application name: NaCl64.exe,...

Based on the error log you posted, that crash does not appear to be the same issue as the ntdll.dll CTD. Please note the the possible fix suggested by Asobo is not a silver bullet that will resolve all crashes, only this specific one.

or, more worryingly, a "silent crash", faulting in ntdll.dll module, I will paste the event log trace below. If I understand correctly, and I'm still gathering precise information, the procedure seems to be:

Hi Brenton,

Sorry to bother you, but can you put down some more details about exact power settings that you tweaked on your Windows 10 clients to get rid of this issue?

Also, has this also resolved for you the "silent crash" (error in ntdll.dll) or just Fatal Disk Error? I'd be very surprised, but also very glad.

Well, I had a look at client's laptop yesterday - I was poking about with it for nearly two hours, opening random windows, reports, saving to PDF, saving to Excel, however I could not make it crash. Luckily, another person was there with me, working on the system, and her laptop experienced one crash of our application, and it was, surprisingly, different that what I've been told few days ago.

So everything from my original post how this mostly happens when clicking back on the application which is not presently active on the task bar to bring it back as active application should be ignored. The problem is completely intermittent, it will sometimes happen once a day, and sometimes it will happen 10-15 times a day.

However, it can happen at absolutely any time, our application active or just made active back again, on the windows retrieval or not, and yesterday it happened quite literally when clicking on one menu of the main menu bar without any other windows within the application open.

The application screen simply disappears. There is no error message of any kind, not even a generic "X.exe has stopped working...", the crash is completely silent, and the application just goes away. Event log trace does state an error in ntdll.dll file as stated above, but apart from that - nothing.

I tried including the /pbdebug option when I started the application once, but it proved unreasonably slow. I'm not sure I can ask clients to run that in runtime environment when they're working in the system, as it takes over 60 seconds to open one screen. And only after opening 2-3 windows, the debug file was almost 40 megabytes large. Seeing that the problem can only manifest itself perhaps once in a day, I'd hate to think how large the debug file may be after 5-6 hours of system use. And I think our client would simply find system usage at that terribly speed unbearable.

I also remember why "Fatal Disk Error" happens usually - what is bizarre is that as one of the first steps we tried is that we copied the application to run straight from the local hard drive, so that the only connection to the server is an ODBC database traffic.

Yes, a lot of our windows have getfocus/losefocus, but primarily, in fact, I'm sure ONLY on datawindows - to AcceptText() during losefocus, and nothing more. Certainly nothing that you would expect to cause a crash.

The "Fatal Disk Error" from PB typically occurs when the machine has been in sleep mode and, after waking up, PB can't re-use the file handle(s) it had open for it's own use. PB opens it's own application exe/pbds to directly read resources (images/datawindows/etc.) and maintains open handle(s) while running. This same error can occur when a network resource gets closed while PB is actively running from it. (your app appears to be running on network drive P: )

I have experienced simlar error this morning in the context of NPrinting. It appears it is license leasing. In my case, the existing QV client was not assigned with individual license key, but was leasing from QV server. By chace, when no administrator accessed to the QV client for 7 days, it loses license, and NPrint has trouble opening QlikView application. I duly input the independent license key, so that it would not abend.

Couple changes that were made:
Add a linked server type:SQLSERVER and running Sp_blitz and using the linked server to send data back to our management SQL Server. (this job was not running so i guess i cant blame Brent)
Added CommVault backup agent and started running CommVault backups, however the first crash occurrence was before we implemented this.

Seems the only thing you could do for now and with the crashes being fairly consistent with just the two changes to the server, I'd try uninstalling the backup agent and get rid of the linked servers for now.

Thanks Sue,
I've removed the linked server since I've found some posts regarding issues that reference linked servers.
It appears so far that its been the last 3 Sundays, but since the event viewer is cutoff last Monday i cant confirm that. There are no jobs running during those times.
I'll dig around some more and see what i can find, will update if i find anything useful.

Thanks,
TomHi Tom.
The exception has not been cached by the SQL dumper. I assume that the event log entry was from Windows error reporting (WER). You should find the mini dump under the WER directory.
Your susspiscion that this is caused by the linked server provider might be correct. Analyzing the dump would confirm that.
To avoid the instance crash, you should set the provider to run outside of the SQL server process (instance restart required- in some rare cases OS reboot is needed for the change to become affected). This way, next time a failure in the linked server provider will result just in an error message and will not affect the SQL Server process.
Please.S. some providers work only inprosess of the SQL Server.
