The Department of Computer Science at UVM announces graduate assistantship opportunities for PhD studies starting September 2010. Assistantships are available as University-sponsored graduate teaching assistantship (GTA) or graduate research assistantship (GRA) as well as possible faculty-sponsored GRA. Prospective Computer Science PhD students are also eligible to apply for a Complex Systems GRA.
The Computer Science PhD program at UVM has been growing steadily, and currently has about 20 PhD students. The faculty in Computer Science is involved in the forefront of research in intelligent systems including data mining, distributed systems, and evolutionary and agent-
based computing. The research areas of individual faculty members can be found in the Further Information page linked below.
The research areas of the PhD students are open for GTA and departmental GRA, and designated as follows for the others:
* Wireless sensor network languages and security, and wireless sensor network environmental monitoring applications, under the supervision of Prof. Skalka (

* Complex systems, under the supervision of any Computer Science faculty (

Qualifications:
Successful applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and show satisfactory test scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). International applicants must submit a TOEFL test score as well.
