Night Watch Dec. 18th

[Night Watch]

We are going to the Streets for Night Watch this Friday Night. If you
are interested in going, please answer this email so I will know who
the volunteers will be. I would like to start at 6pm loading the truck
and preparing everything for the evening. This will allow us to leave
by 7pm. If you cannot come until 7pm, that will be fine. Just know
that we want to leave as close to 7pm as possible. Michele, I need to
know who 'not' to visit after 9pm. If anyone wants to cook soup or a
meal, let me know. This is my busy season for candy and I don't think
we have any microwave meals.

Deb, I'm not aware of anyone asking that NightWatch not visit. A number of homeless folks, who sleep in different locations, have shared that they go to bed much earlier in the cold weather, so that they can get warm. After 9pm, most everyone is in bed. Many will get up when NightWatch arrives, because they have good manners and are always happy to see the team, but it takes a long time for them to get warm again when they go back to bed. Thus, my email to team leaders asking if winter start times for NightWatch might be reconsidered, in order to better serve the needs of our homeless friends. With that said, our friends are very grateful for NightWatch, and no one has said to me, "Don't come."

I bought 48 microwave soup cups for NightWatch last week, plus some other things to go with it. Can someone who went last week comment and let us know how much is left? Audrie and I are not available this Friday to do soup, so hopefully, there is food left from last week. If not, I can post and ask someone to make soup for you.

The soup cup count was in case no one was able to make soup this week.
I wanted to make sure there would be enough of the microwavable cups
left for you if you needed to use those. But that's covered, so no
need to count. I'll be doing StreetWatch all day Thursday and most of
Friday (why I can't make soup). So if you think of anything you need
that we might have in our supplies, please let me know and I'll try to
drop it off for you. Audrie's husband is having a medical procedure
done on Friday (why she couldn't make soup), so please pray for him
and their family. Thank you, love you all.

Great! I had initially told my wife 7:30, but we will definitely get
there by 6:45. And if we can get there earlier, we will. (sister
from Canada coming through town tomorrow afternoon, just for an hour
or so, so can't miss her. But I am sure she will be gone by 6:30 at
the latest. And she may come through earlier.)

I've spoken with several of our friends as well and they do try to settle in a bit earlier in the winter to conserve warmth..I think Deb touched on this back in November. I'll be helping next Friday and I'm hoping we can get a crew together to leave around 6:30 if Jack and Jeff agree.
