Mods found in the Steam Workshop can be installed by navigating to the mod's page and clicking Subscribe. The game must be started to install the mod into the game, and the installation will be signaled by a loading screen. Once installed, the mod will automatically be enabled ingame. If a mod has updated, then starting the game again will update the mod accordingly as signaled as a loading screen. Unsubscribing to the Steam Workshop mod then starting the game will cause the mod itself to uninstall, also seen on the loading screen. Note that some mods are only functional for the Afterbirth+ DLC while others are only functional when the Repentance DLC is enabled. Some mods require add-in support mods in order to properly function as well (i.e. Mod Compatability Hack or Custom Stage API).

Mods that do not use the Steam Workshop can be installed by downloading them and manually extracting them to the mods folder of the main Binding of Isaac folder. Starting the game will feature the mod automatically enabled and won't be featured in the installation loading screen.

In Afterbirth+ and Repentance, having any enabled mod will disable the ability to unlock any achievements to encourage new players to play the game without any. To enable unlocking achievements with mods enabled, you need to defeat Mom at least once with all of your mods disabled. If your mods disappear after installing them (only on cracked versions of AB+), it is greatly recommended to defeat Mom's Heart once.

Many mods do not or cannot retain save data in a continued game. This could be due to the mod author not knowing how to enable this, or the mod's data being too complicated to save. It is recommended to avoid continuing any saved games if any mods are enabled.

If any installed mods contain save data that must be kept between runs (for example, custom unlockables) then this would be a big concern, as deleting the mod's save data would remove this progress. Some ways to work around these issues include:

When this happens, many textures and animation files will not be applied in-game. For example, a custom monster added by a mod affected by this issue may appear invisible. Some ways to work around these issues include:

These kinds of issues are usually caused by the game failing to copy all the mod's files over from Steam's workshop folder into the mod's folder. Performing this process manually by yourself usually fixes this. Steam's workshop folder is included in:

The official mod repository, these mods only work for Afterbirth+ or Repentance. Note that some mods only work with the former enabled and the latter disabled while some others only work with the latter enabled.

To download mods from our Modding of Isaac website, you need to own The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on Steam. You do not need to own any DLCs. You will need to have your Game details and My profile settings set to Public when you log in (you may set them back to the original settings after logging into the site). If you have tried to download a mod when you own the game and weren't allowed to, try logging out and back in again. If that does not work, use the discussions boards or Discord server.

Extract the file(s) into your resources folder. You can find this folder by right click on The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in your Steam Library, and go to Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files... Some mods made use non-standard installation methods. Check the mod page for installation instructions.

If you installed a mod and it had no effect or resulted in crashes, go back and make sure you installed it properly. Check the description of the mod and the comments of the mod to ensure that nobody has posted a fix to your issue. Leave a comment on the mod describing your issue and hopefully the author will get back to you. If they don't reply, it is likely the mod is outdated or the author is gone.

When modding files on Rebirth and Afterbirth, achievements will not be disabled. However, when using an Afterbirth+ or Repentance mod, your achievements will be disabled until you've defeated Mom at least once.

With the Windows path direction you will only open your current savegame folder. I dont know yet if the Steam Version will use this path for its savegamefiles too... I will have a look at this later maybe^^

I have the latest Desura stable build download and I'm trying to use mods, I have found the mod folder, place the zip files in the folder (not in the script and stories folder inside the mod folder), and nothing happens. I start the game and I don't see a mod options menu.

Make sure that the mods are actually for the current version of Project Zomboid. You can easily tell by looking at the title of the threads and checking if the version number (for example [2.9.9.17]) matches the version you are playing. Some mods haven't been updated yet.

Turns out I have 2.9.9.10. I'm tempted to get my Steam key and go for 2.9.9.17. Maybe that will fix some mod issues. I tried unzipping the files into the mod folder, leaving the zip files in the mod folder, repeating the first 2 in Mod/Script folder, and the list goes on. I won't give up.

very new to the modding scene but huge fan of PZ and all that goes into it. Recently downloaded it from Steam, however all methods i've seen explain that the game folder should come with a preexisting mod folder. In my Zomboid Download this folder does not exist, and i'm at a loss to figure out how i can mod without it. Any sort of help with this or explanation would be HUGELY appreciated. Thanks to all,

Hey guys ,
I found a pretty annoying bug with the installation of mods, sometimes you would install the mod properly and it would even show on the in-game menu tab, however the mod wouldn't work at all.

With the newest steam build mod loader all the mods are required to have a mod.info file this one needs to consist of 5 basic elements,
these are listed in here: -how-to-use-the-modloader/ "name, id, poster, description and url" .

For some reason some of the mod developers do not add the id element, this brings(at least for me) an annoying problem:
The game tries to find the id for the mod and fails in doing so, therefore it adds the address of where the mod is located (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Zomboid\mods\MODNAME) then the game lists the game in the "loaded.txt file in the mods folder with this "default" id.
The game then recognizes the mod and lists it as loaded, but when you load a world and the mod doesn't work at all.
I came with a solution for this(it's really simple you should have figured it out by now):
Simply edit the mod.info file and add the id element to it, use the name of the mod, preferably.
It should look something like this: "id=NameOfTheMod"
To do this i used Notepad++, but i'm sure it works without it, simply right click the mod.info file, click Edit from the drop-down list and add the id element.

i use PZ in desura and no mod is working. i've them all in my mod folder. but ingame i can'T see them in the mode menue.
does anyone knows how i can fix it? the mods are all compatible with my version (: 2.9.9.17)

I downloaded a few mods and they show up in the mod menu, but when I check them on and restart the game, they turn off....
I put them in the Users\username\zomboid\mods folder and they all have mod.info files, which include the important stuff, and the name which is what it needs to work. So I know the mods themselves aren't broken, just not turning on for some reason.
Thanks,
Sok.

It's still doing the same thing, but before I deleted it, it said C:users\username that stuff instead of just the mod name by itself, is that a problem? Also, now the nonworking mods don't show up at all, probably because they're not loaded in the game and they won't load.

When you say "a few mods" it really doesn't help, since it is typically a question of individual mods being out of date. Crafthelper for example hasn't been updated for the new mod system as far as I know. You'd need to list the mods you're using. Scratch that, a wizard told me Crafthelper's been updated. It just don't work for some other reason. Anyway, listing the mods you use would still be useful.

Hey there! I was trying to get Binding of Isaac crowd control working. The game version is repentance. I also disabled random card and teleport as per instructions. I also verified that CC is installing the mod in the correct folder. But the game will not See the mod. I verified mods ARE being detected by installing another mod from the workshop. Am I missing something?

Hey there, we have had success with the pack running with Repentance with a few tweaks. If things are jut not working out, you can downgrade back to AB+ for the mod to work (Steam > properties > DLC > uncheck DLC)

Good morning, or evening, or afternoon wherever you are. I'm posting this to get help with modding for PS5. I've found a way to allow for certain mods to be transferred to a PS5 save. See my level 45, 44ish feats character in the link below.

Im writing this to show mods can be used on PS5 but more importantly to see if some of you actual creators that know what you're doing can figure a way to get the pak file mods ported over. All saves that contained those type of files just didnt show up on my PS5. Or start making more mods that can be uploaded to PS5...
