Yesterday in Nigeria, the camp of opposition to the Third Term Agenda
(T.T.A) burst into dancing in the national assembly. The political
arithmetic of Senators who have spoken to denounce the TTA in the last
5 days of debate on the floor of the upper chamber overshot the 40+
mark.

What does this portend for the Nation and 2007? It was a turning point
and major set-back for the Presidency and its ambition. If the pattern
or trend of this debate at the Senate is eventually translated into
voting when a division is called for by the Senate President, It means
that the Two-Third majority needed by the Presidency to coast home the
goals of TTA would be absent.

This is the real reason behind the emergency meeting summoned by Mr.
President in his villa of principal stake-holders. The TTA camp
suffered a defeat and the Commander-in-Chief had to delay his trip to
Indonesia by three hours in order to arm-twist the leaders of the lower
legislative chamber from repeating the open castration of the
Presidency on that floor, come next week.

The losers are getting irritated and intolerant by this open
castration, particularly in the press- the peoples media. Now the
strategy is to muzzle the press, and as usual, African Independent
Television AIT, has come under the sledge-hammer of the freedom-hating
administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Ultimatum to close down
AIT's corporate headquarters in Abuja has been issued by the "voice of
Jacob" even though it is the hand of Esau that issued the threat.
