It is very strange that the most controversial issue in Nigeria today
is the fate of our fledging democracy, which is being tested for
capacity endurance in the last three months.

Both public and private persons are anxious about the growing wave of
violence as we approach new elections in 2007.

Many grieveances are bursting out and given expression in youth
restiveness, particularly in the Niger-Delta region.

The recent manuovres by the out-going Presidency led by chief Olusegun
Obasanjo to ammend the 1999 Constitution to accomodate a possibility of
a 3rd term for the regime has caused so much public consternation.

The views aggregated is that, people feel that the regime is changing
the goal-post in the middle of the game. The tension is no less
assuaged by the open signification by the out-going Vice President,
Atiku Abubarkar, for the coveted position of his out-going boss. this
has sharply pitted the political class into two broad camps and sharply
divided society too.

Opposition is mounting against the present crop of politicians as the
people feel that the true dividends of democracy is yet to be delivered
into their mail-box after SEVEN YEARS.
