CALL FOR APPLICATIONS CPD ONLINE TRAINING

PASCAR Africa Heart Failure Association in Partnership with Cardiff University
Africa Heart Failure Course

May to October 2026

6-month Training with CPD Modules & Live Virtual Lectures

Application Deadline: 13 April 2026

This course has been developed for Africa, by Africans, with the aim of creating a network of appropriately trained specialists with an interest in heart failure, to take leadership roles in their regions, countries, and local institutions. They will be involved in developing systems-of-care designed to offer early diagnoses and optimise treatment, through capacity building and without undue burden on resources.

The course is tailored for medical specialists (cardiologists and specialist physicians) who will be selected from the most promising early career clinicians from across the continent. A primary focus of the course will involve lifelong mentorship for the participants to help facilitate the long-term course objectives.

Module 1 consists of six virtual sessions from May to October, where physician candidates work in small mentor led groups, include an allied healthcare partner, cover core heart failure theory, and present real world cases. Preparatory material is provided in advance, and all sessions are CPD accredited and recorded for self-study. CPD Certificates per session will be issued automatically on completion of online CPD MCQs.

Module 2 involves a Selfimprovement Project write-up, in which each student completes a locally relevant Heart Failure initiative focused on service or quality improvement, clinical audit, carepathway development, multidisciplinary teamwork, or research. The chosen topic will centre on describing the candidates current heartfailure landscape and outlining evidencebased strategies to enhance services. Each participant will work closely with the mentor from the core faculty, and the module can be completed virtually.

Module 3 is a five‑day visit to Cardiff University in August 2027, where candidates observe a mature heart‑failure service, including organisational structure, care pathways, multidisciplinary teamwork, and integration with research.
