Dear Partners and Colleagues,

We’re proud to share a major milestone in global cardiovascular care: the iCARDIO Alliance Global Implementation Guidelines on Obesity Therapy in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease have just been published in Global Cardiology.

This is our second set of cardiology Guidelines, following the publication in April of our Global Implementation Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Acute and Chronic Heart Failure. These groundbreaking, open-access guidelines are globally representative, economically adaptable, and equity-driven, offering real-world solutions for clinicians and systems in every region.

   Why These Guidelines Matter:

  • Developed through international consensus, with over 50% of contributors from outside Europe and North America

  • Three-tiered economic framework for high-, moderate-, and low-resource settings

  • Culturally and regionally relevant, including updated BMI criteria for Asian populations

  • Modern, multi-pronged treatment approach: lifestyle, pharmacologic, and surgical interventions

  • Focus on cardio-metabolic outcomes, including heart failure and ASCVD

  • Patient-centered, non-stigmatizing language and lived experience integrated into every step

This initiative is a direct response to what frontline clinicians told us through our global survey: existing guidelines often fail to meet the needs of underserved populations or adapt to diverse resource environments.

The iCARDIO Guidelines change that. They are not only a clinical resource

  •  They are a movement toward equitable, practical, and effective care for people living with obesity and cardiovascular disease worldwide.

Access the Guidelines Now:

We encourage you to share this important resource across your networks, organizations, and health systems

Together, we can close the implementation gap and improve outcomes for millions of people.

Warm regards,
Shelley Zieroth and Fausto Pinto Chairs of the iCARDIO Alliance https://icardioalliance.org
