Dear Okechukwu,

The World Heart Federation (WHF) Roadmaps are an important part of our contribution to address the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) worldwide. They provide a general framework for regions and countries to identify barriers to reducing premature cardiovascular disease mortality and offer evidence-based solutions to overcome them through policy and health systems strategies.

Since the beginning of the WHF Roadmap initiative in 2014 we have published WHF Roadmaps on Hypertension, Secondary Prevention, Tobacco Control, Atrial Fibrillation, Rheumatic Heart Disease, Cholesterol, Heart Failure, DiabetesChagas disease, Digital Health in Cardiology and soon to be published Single Pill Combination Therapies.

Cardiac rehabilitation is vital for secondary prevention in individuals recovering from heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular conditions. It is a multidisciplinary approach that combines exercise, nutrition, psychological support, and risk management to improve outcomes, reduce hospital readmissions, and enhance quality of life. Proven to lower mortality and morbidity, it also boosts physical and mental well-being. However, access remains limited, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where healthcare systems often lack the necessary infrastructure, trained personnel, and financial resources for comprehensive rehabilitation programs.

A WHF Roadmap will be developed to review the latest research on Cardiac rehabilitation, highlight Country case studies, identify roadblocks to Cardiac rehabilitation and provide evidence-based recommendations.

Moving this initiative forward we want to further engage with our Members, therefore through this letter, we kindly request your participation in nominating experts for the WHF Roadmap on Rehabilitation Expert Writing Group.

We highly value nominations from members and invite candidates working as a medical doctor (Cardiologist, Lipidologist, Endocrinologist), Healthcare professional (Nursing, Nutritionist/Dietician, Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist) or Public Health specialist with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Epidemiology
  • Health economics
  • Policy and/or Advocacy
  • Implementation Science
  • Health Behaviour change

If you wish to nominate a candidate, please provide their full name, occupation, affiliation, contact details, and brief bio to: sci...@worldheart.org before Friday 7 March 2025.

We will consider all nominations, but due to the limited number of places in the groups, the WHF Roadmap Committee will only be able to select a few of the candidates.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on the email address above. We look forward to receiving your nominations.

Yours sincerely,

Prof Sidney. C. Smith | Co-Chair of the WHF Roadmap on Rehabilitation Expert Writing Group

Prof Julie Redfern | Co-Chair of the WHF Roadmap on Rehabilitation Expert Writing Group
