We are writing to share that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will not hold the Rick Nishimura, MD, MACC and Patrick T. O’Gara, MD, MACC Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy in person this December as previously communicated. Rather, we are rescheduling for May 1- May 3, 2022, at ACC’s Heart House in Washington, DC.

New! Application Deadline:

Nomination materials will be due by Friday, November 26, 2021. Please submit your nomination packet in the portal for the course leaders to review.

Course Goal:

The goal of this course is to enhance participants’ competence by promoting the development of skills for Emerging Faculty committed to contributing to ACC’s education mission and to facilitate this transfer of knowledge into their professional practice. Upon completion of this course, participants will be considered by the ACC leadership as potential candidates for future educational activities and ACC committees. This is a tremendous opportunity for your promising young faculty to develop their teaching skills, and to also “open the door” for other ACC leadership opportunities.

A grant from The Michael Wolk Heart Foundation, along with a direct investment from the ACC, supports this course, providing tuition, hotel accommodations, and meals for each participant (participants are responsible for their own travel and transportation expenses to/from Washington, DC). Additionally, an ACC W. Proctor Harvey, MD, Young Teacher awardee will be selected from the Emerging Faculty participants, receiving a $5,000 award and complimentary registration and transportation for the subsequent ACC Annual Scientific Session.

Eligibility and Target Audience:

Physician and Cardiac Care Clinician candidates must be American College of Cardiology Fellows or Associate Fellows in good standing who have not yet attained the academic rank of professor. Candidates should also be in a full-time academic position where there is a complement of medical students or house-staff to be taught.

Application Process:

Interested applicants should click here to complete the online application and upload the following documents as one combined PDF. Please Note: Only one (1) applicant per institution is permitted.

  1. Curriculum Vitae.
  2. A nomination letter from the institution’s Chair of Cardiology or a Fellow of the ACC who is familiar with the candidate's teaching abilities. If this nomination letter is not provided by the Chair of Cardiology, a signed statement or letter must be included from the Chair of Cardiology approving the nomination.
  3. A supporting letter from a Fellow of the ACC (FACC) who is familiar with the candidates’ teaching abilities.
  4. A personal letter from the candidate explaining why they wish to be selected as a course participant.

Selection Criteria and Process: Exceptional talent and dedication to teaching (assisting and supporting the learning process) will guide the selection of participants. The Emerging Faculty Planning Committee will review all nominations and make final selections of participants.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

The ACC requires those working at or participating in meetings at Heart House to be vaccinated. Prior to your arrival at Heart House, you will receive additional information on the process to document your vaccination status. The ACC has a process for a medical and/or religious exemption to be sought. Contact Jackie Massey at jma...@acc.org if you are in need of this information.
