I think this is a move in the WRONG direction (I think we should be moving more towards project management or project controls) but I spoke and AACE didn't listen......

When facts change, we must change. It is unavoidable.

Recently, you were notified of the association’s action to rebrand CCC/CCE to CCEC.  Unfortunately, the Association discovered the title and acronym, Certified Cost Engineering Consultant (CCEC), could not be used by certificate holders in the Canadian province of Alberta (and possibly several other Canadian provinces) because of restrictive language in the Engineering and Geoscience Professions (EGP) Act.  After consultation with the compliance department of the entity administering the act in Alberta, AACE International leaders determined individuals without an engineering license in Alberta would be not be able to use the CCEC certification without risk of violation of the provincial Act.  Considering AACE’s largest Canadian section, Calgary, is located in Alberta, the Certification Board has determined that AACE International should not rebrand the CCC/CCE as the CCEC, because of the legal conflict it would pose on our Canadian members and certificate holders.

As a result, the Certification Board and AACE International Board of Directors have approved the action to rebrand the CCC/CCE designation as Certified Cost Professional (CCP).  The full announcement can be found at http://www.aacei.org/mbr/news/2013/2013-06-19.shtml.

 

Current plans are still underway to change each CCC/CCE designation to CCP in each user’s AACE profile and certified directory.  Once each record is updated a new virtual certificate will be sent to reflect the updated CCP designation.   We realize you may have business cards, letterhead, websites, etc. which refer to your CCC/CCE , therefore it is expected all individuals (and companies) will make the necessary changes by January 1, 2014, replacing CCP for all CCC or CCE references.

Follow up communication on the 2nd CCC/CCE to CCEC to CCP name change-
 
John Hollman is very unhappy with this change and has started a discussion on the AACE Linked In website.  http://goo.gl/xfGw7  (Better him than me!!!)
 
I can only ask that if you really care about the name of the CCC/E credential, NOW is the time to join the AACE Linked in Group and make your voices heard.  If you do not speak up, Valerie and the Cert Board will NOT back down......
 
So it is now or NEVER, folks......

Constant changing of name is not good at this time when the body is still forming. They should consider a scenario where a member introduce himself to a client as CCE, CCEC and then CCP under twelve calendar months. the idea is ethically unacceptable as a professional body of very high standard.

Folks, lets speak up at this time to address this issue.
I am joining the Linked In site to add my own view.

Here is the latest update on the furor over the CCC/CCE name change.
 
John Hollman has just posted on the AACE Linked In group http://goo.gl/6JuiJ that the BoD has set aside one hour, from 8:00-9:00 am on Wed. July 3 at the annual symposium in Washington DC in a couple of weeks  for anyone who wants to speak to the Board of Directors on this issue.
 
I will be there and will be happy to print out and hand them any comments you email on this topic..... But the best  is to take 10 minutes to make a posting on the AACE Linked In site......  http://goo.gl/6JuiJ

Best to send a copy of what you've written (which was EXCELLENT) to Valerie Venters, venter...@aol.com ; President of AACE pres...@aacei.org and President Elect pres...@aacei.org of AACE with blind copy to me.   I will print out whatever I get and and present them with hard copy.........  But rest assured that they ALL are reading what is being posted on the Linked In page and unlike an email, they CANNOT ignore it, because it is public information..........
 
Keep up the great work (so proud of your leadership by example!!!) and looking forward to reporting back that we were successful in at least making the process more open and transparent.........
