Please find attached a letter received from MoT regarding the campaign for promoting Sustainable Practices in the Textile Sector for World Environment Day 2026. 

 

The emphasis is to organise clothing reuse, upcycling and repair campaigns using textile-outreach platforms.

Please collate some projects- such as End term projects or GPs which are on such topics and take good quality photographs to be posted on the Meri LiFE portal. 

 

This may be brought to the notice of all faculty at the earliest, as most of them are in the jury panels and can highlight certain projects for the said purpose from your campus.

 

The action taken report in prescribed format may please be provided by 05.06.2026 for uploading on portal.

Sir,

          Kindly find attached the PPT shared by MoEFCC for Inter ministerial Convergence on World Environment Day (WED) 2026 in respect of Ministry of Textiles and also refer trail email vide which links have been shared for Online Training on MeriLiFE portal for registration and uploading of events pertaining to the Ministry of Textiles on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED) 2026.

2.     The MoEFCC has suggested following activities for the Ministry of Textiles on WED 2026:

a.     Utilize PM MITRA and textile clusters to drive low-waste, efficient, and clean manufacturing

b.     Promote handlooms and handicrafts to encourage repair, reuse, traditional fibres and reduced fast-fashion waste.

c.     Encourage institutions (NIFT network) to organize clothing reuse, upcycling and repair campaigns using textile-outreach platforms.

d.     Use ministry exhibitions and product-promotion events to highlight locally crafted and lower-waste textile practices.


3.     The MoEFCC has also shared the SoP for Field Offices/ Central/State Ministry/Departments to Register, Login, and Upload WED 2026 Action Reports on the Meri LiFE Platform for the period from 22nd May to 5th June 2026. 

4.     Since the aforesaid suggested activities by MoEFCC are not limited to the scope of the Sustainability Division only and would be undertaken by other Sections/Divisions/PSUs/attached offices/subordinate offices as well, the matter is forwarded to the Coordination Section as Nodal Division for this Ministry for further necessary action with the request to attend the proposed online training (VC links of the same are mentioned in below email for 2 PM SLOT/3PM SLOT) for registration and updating of various events on the MeriLIFE Portal. Further, all concerned Sections/Divisions/PSUs/attached offices/subordinate offices may share their activities with Coordination Section for uploading on MeriLIFE Portal. Activities undertaken by the Sustainability Section during the campaign period of WED 2026 will be conveyed accordingly as the same was done for WED 2025.

5.     This issues with the approval of competent authority.
