Dear Campus Directors,

A special initiative was announced during the budget 2026 by the Hon'ble Finance Minister Smt Sitharaman for Handlooms, handicrafts and khadi. It has been named 'Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Initiative' (MGGSI), to design products and processes to take handmade products to national and international levels through branding and focussed marketing.

A team has been working on the contours of the initiative which is headed by Secretary Textiles. A pilot project has been planned with 150 beneficiaries from handloom, handicraft and khadi. As a preliminary exercise, three seminars- in Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata are proposed to DC Handicrafts, who is the nodal officer for developing the guidelines of the initiative.

I request you to propose names of two senior faculty who will attend the seminar from your campus and later will be responsible from your campus for developing modules for artisans, specifically rural youth. These faculty could be from Design, marketing, processes and production, packaging and Branding or fashion forecasting.

I will appreciate it if the names are shared with me at the earliest.

Best Wishes
